However the 225/50/16 is way too large. Here are 16x8 et20 with 225/50/16 star specs on my car. I would love to fit these for the street. Car felt a lot more stable through turns with them and they rolled over potholes and speed bumps quite nice.

The early arches must make a big difference, here is the same setup on rolled fenders. No rubbing issues at all - driving/auto-x/full lock.

sadly you cant. I'm concerned about running the 225/40/15. My skid plate is already too close to the ground. However the 225/50/16 is way too large. IIRC, 15x8 TRM wheels are about ~14.1lbs each

Yes they look like shit. And I highly doubt the lower offset wheels will look any different.
Most likely the different offsets are achieved by varying the mounting pad thickness.

RS3's like a like a small "stretch" as well... +20 on an 8" rim will allow you run a 225/50 RS3 with fender work...
