You're not going to harm the tires by driving a few miles to the track or an AX meet. They're DOT street tires, remember--they were designed to be able to be run on the street, legally. Being able to get up and drive an already-prepared car will probably do more for your lap times than the miniscule wear you're putting on the tire by getting to the track.
A bigger factor is usually heat cycles, and you shouldn't be heat cycling the tires on the way to the track, so long as you're not drifting or doing burnouts or anything.
