    Installing Harnesses eyehooks

I've tried to do some search but haven't really found anything that helps. I am looking at buying some harnesses for my car. I've got a half-cage/rollbar installed already but I'm concerned about the lap belts (and sub belts for the matter). Some of the harnesses I've seen require "eyehooks" for the harnesses to snap into.

I read on E30spec that on the outside of the seat the stock threaded hold for the seat belt can be reused but that you might need to drill a new hole for the inside seat one? Any ideas? Is this something I should leave to a pro? I'm not mechanically handicapped by any means but drilling into the underside of my car has me a bit sketch. Any help would be appreciated.

If you are not confident, go to a shop that works on BMW CCA or SCCA race cars. Don't go to a drag race place.

If you DIY it, make sure you follow the belt manufacturers instructions and good hardware. Large metal backing plates are required for any drilled holes.

I guess as long as I got the backing plates I would feel pretty comfortable doing it. It's just a matter of getting the proper hardware. I saw on ebay that the eyehooks were sold individually or as a package. Backing plates, I researched can be had through Sparco, G-Force, and another company I forgot... maybe HMS?

Is it really that easy? So you're saying there should be threaded bolts already there from the factory for both sides of the seat?

On a side note, I like your avatar ;)

It's not that easy. Read the instructions for the harness - that would put the lap belt at the incorrect angle. Some seat brackets do have mounts for the anchors, but most often (in order to correctly mount the lap belt) you will need to find a method of mount the inside anchor. Luckily, there is some thicker material in the transmission tunnel that will give you some decent option for mounting.

here's a good start option for mounting:

Many harnesses and belts that we sell can be converted to bolt-in, wrap-around, or snap-in mount by changing the mounting hardware which we provide.

The first task would be to mount the race seat. Then find the point on the car that will result in the lap belt being at the correct angle. Once you know where the lap belt mount points will be you can figure what what you need to do for the anchors. On my race car the proper points are several inches aft of the rear seat mounting points. Because the shape of the car is awkward there I made and welded in mount points for the anchors.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Are you using stock seats,or fixed race seats..I have a corbeau fixed seat and the rear inside bolt is a eyebolt instead of stock bolt..it was that easy for me...then harness snaps in..

              I will take a picture,but won't be for a couple weeks though,till I install the race seat.

I don't have a fixed seat just yet. I have Recaro SRDs right now.... I'd definitely like to see some pics installed when you get a chance. I'm still a little ways from doing this but I just wanted to throw this question out there as I was curious.
