+1 on the Kirk bolt-in bar. Well made and good fit.

For seat mounting I went with Massive Lee's side mounts that bolt up to the stock e30 sliders. When assembling you can also attach the OEM seat belt receptacle to use the OEM 3-points. Not sure if he still makes these though since I didn't see them on his site, you could try contacting him (massivebrakes@gmail.com).

My driver's seat is a Cobra Suzuka GT. I use the 3-points for street and 6-point Schroth belts for track. Passenger side seat is an older Recaro SRD with an IO port back brace, 6-point Scroth and OEM 3-points

Oh yea... I forgot about that. Same deal with the Kirk bar. The previous owner of mine had bent his a bit to contour to the wheel well a bit. My friend and I made use of a mini sledge and beat the ever living crap out of the backstay plates to contour pretty well to the wheel arches.

I also saw photos of the Kirk bar that Vorshlag installed on an E30, they just hammed the wheel arch flat where the backstays mounted. (Whoops, wish I had thought about that!)

Great find on the massive side mounts. I just emailed them. I love the idea of using the OEM rails, but the only thing I don't see is a way to attach the lap belts and sub belts with those mounts...

I expect folks have tried different mounting solutions so take this FWIW.

I worked with a local shop to figure out the options that worked best for my needs. For the sub belts I went through the floorboard underneath the seat with eye bolts (if you are using clip-in harnesses, regular mounting bolts otherwise) and backing plates. To mount the harness lap belts required drilling for outboard and inboard placement with bolts and plates as well. Pegasus Racing is local so I picking up the mounting hardware from them.

For the OEM belts on both the driver and passenger sides I was able to keep the outboard belt mounting bolt and belt bar. For the inboard OEM receiver on the passenger side I went with mounting it directly to one of Lee's bottom Recaro mounts and used the rear inboard seat mount to seat slider bolt (roughly the same set up as OEM bottom seat mount to slider rear bolt).

On the driver's side my set up was to drill through the tranny tunnel and mount the OEM seat belt receiver with an eye bolt and backing plate, and then clip in the 6-point harness lap belt to the eye bolt. Depending on your size, driving position, and seat choice you might be able to do the same.

Thanks for that. what seat did you mount in your chump car and do you have any pics of how the stock belt receiver attached to the seat base?

Looks like the 'sparco' one you linked and the Wedge engineering bracket on that site are the same pic.

I had a Sparco Sprint 5 mounted. used the linked adapter/base, Sparco sliders and Sparco side plates to complete.

No stock belt in the car, but in the pic I linked, you can see the mounting tab for the stock receiver - small vertical tab with a hole in it - the picture is either reversed or that is a pic of the passenger side, since the tab is at the back right corner. You'd just bolt the stock receiver with stock bolt/nut or a grade 8 (or better bolt/nut).

You could find a local shop to build a bolt in roll bar for you. The only reason why I say this instead of pick the kirk/VSR/etc. is where the rear points touch down. Backing plates will be more difficult to make, but they should go to directly above the rear spring mounts, where all the force is transmitted from the road to the chassis and the chassis is stronger. Attaching to the rear wheel arches doesn't really do much.... flattening the sheet metal back there sounds like a bad idea to me as well - metal fatigue can lead to failure.

Mounting for the 6-point, we used the stock outboard mounting hole (rear hole for the bar), drilled a hole and used a backing plate for the inboard mount and then used the rear seat mounting bolts/holes for the sub-harness.

                Worked out very well.

Thanks everyone for the advice and input.

I went with massive side rails to attach my RaceTech seats to the OEM sliders. Kirk 4-point bolt-in bar & Schroth hybrid II 6 points. Longest lead time is the bar, which will take about 3 weeks to fab and ship. Going to have my shop RT/Tuning tie it all together and make sure the mounting of everything is done correctly.

My first event this year with the car is April 16-17th w/BMWCCA @ NJMP Lightning, can't wait!

I've got finals then... I just have to way til May, except I think I might have some subframe and shock tower issues that need to be addressed first.

Whatever the brand of rollbar, get one that has the base plates located on the rockers, not on the floorpan. The floorpans are very thin and if you roll over, the rollbar will punch the floorpan thru. If you insist on "bolted". Then weld plates onto the rockers, and bolt the rollbar onto the plates.

Lee, do you know what brand of bars bolt to the rockers? I got the kirk and didn't even think to ask...

My shop that will be doing the install (www.rttuning.com) is very through and I know they wouldn't just drill holes in the floor and put two sandwich plates there without doing some type of structural reinforcement if it was needed.

I suggest you contact VSR and ask them what they offer.
