    Staggered for a weekend?

I'm getting ready to buy 2 rims/tire combo to start my collection of track tires so that I have street and track sets. Right now I have 15x7 205/50/15's. If I decide to get 2-15x8's (225/45/15) for the track I will be going to my first track weekend this year with a staggered setup because I can't afford all 4 at once.
Will this ruin my weekend? will I even notice it that much?
Any reason I should stay with the 15x7's?
    TIA

First, are you suggesting to run 2 wheels at 15x7 with older 205/55 tires, with the 2 new 15x8 with new 225/45s?

I'd say you'd really notice that setup, and may be really unsettling depending on how you drive your car. Even worse if the tires are not the same type. But just having different aged tires and different sizes might show up.

Of course it really depends on how hard you can push your car and how in tune you are with it. My mother would not notice a staggard setup. I see people on the street that apparently don't notice that they are driving a donut spare at 55mph

Dude, this has to be the most retarded thing I have heard all week.

If you can't afford tires, what the hell are you gonna do when you wreck your pile of crap?

Seriously, stay home. Earn some money so you can go track your car safely.

Play it smart or pay forever.

Yes. It would be 225/45 RS-3's in the back and 205/50 Star Spec Z1's in the front until I could afford the 2nd set. I've been to the track with Z1's in the back and summer driving tire in the front and actually loved the extra grip in the back. This however would be a combo of different tires and sizes. Maybe I should just go with another set of 15x7's

Good thing I came here for advice!
Why don't you buy me some tires then millionaire?

I can afford 4 new tires, I'm thinking about buying 2 tire/rim combo to get my track set started. Is this a good idea? I don't know which is why I am asking douchenozzles like you for advice.

I don't know why you would ask anyone that stupid a question either.

You sound like you are about 16, right?

Absolutely do it! You're never going to know anything about what tires do what unless you try them. Buy the 225's with the 15x8's. Run them at your track day and see what you think. I guarantee that you'll probably like it. And you would like it even more if you had 225's all the way around.

You should probably expect that the rear end will be more planted and stable during cornering and might get a little bit of push from the front end, especially on corner exit. But it probably won't be that noticeable. Nothing that you won't be able to get used to and get comfortable with.

Only issue i see is that when you buy the second pair you will end up with a set of worn and heat cycled rs-3s and a set of fresh once down the road..
I recommend you run the star specs and save up to buy a whole set of 4 at the same time.

Also whats wrong with he star specs a 205 star spec is a great starter track tire.

Unless your star specs are toast, like down to 2/32 or something, you probably wont notice a huge difference. The dunlops run wide, my 225/50 star specs are almost a full inch wider than my 245/35 toyo tr1s. Both the rs3 and d1 are very close in performance characteristics, but the rs3 likes a bit more heat to reach full potential, so if your doing single run autox events the worn d1 and new rs3 might balance out ok. As far as the staggered wheel size, you might get a little understeer, but I would guess nothing bad enough to cause safety issues.

If I do this, the RS-3's will only have one track weekend on them before I get the other two. Hopefully there won't be a large wear difference. I do like the star specs a lot but wouldn't going wider be "better" in general on the track? I noticed a huge diff going from stock 14's to the 15x7's and 10mm spacers on all 4.

Wider is better, but if you are new to the track it is also nice to start on a smaller tire and learn more instead of just throwing bigger sticker tire on as they can cover up certain small mistakes.

Why don't you buy a full set of 225/45 rs-3 and mount them on your current set of 15x7's? Then you don't need to buy the 15x8's right away.

                              Logic evades some.

                              Do as you will.
