Those couple of car nuts (and friends) felt like racing one day...

A couple of car nuts (including those nuts who set up shop one day) wished they had a venue to race their 80's German cars. And they figured the best way to do this would be to pit the Bavarian barnstormers against the saloons from Stuttgart. Thus born was the 1st Philippine DTM Revival Invitational Race (phew! That was a mouthful!)

The idea was to get e30s and 190Es on one grid, and throw in a few other cars that competed in the DTM touring car series in the 80s. Unfortunately, we decided to do this in the middle of the rainy season, and the weather looked like it wasn't gonna cooperate. And to further complicate matters, there wasn't much time for all the guys to get their cars track-ready. And a few of those that thought they were ready were wrong, and some cars didn't even leave the garages.

Nonetheless, we got a grid of 5 cars (an M3, two 325is, a 320i, and a 190E 2.5-16v) and had a go of it! Unfortunately, we didn't represent the e30 that well - the Cossie took first. In our defense, it was piloted by George Apacible, who is a local racing hero and performance driving instructor.

Anyway, here are a couple of pics:

It wasn't a big event, but we got some help from sponsors - Aguila Auto Glass, ARC Automotive, Bilstein, Brembo, H&R, Liqui Moly, Mio Watch, Refinish Line, and Sonax - to help offset the track costs. There's another race on November 18th, so here's hoping we get even more cars on the grid and have even more fun next time 'round!

Nsquared97: hopefully next race. we had a 325i that was a contender, but the car retired after lap 1 due to a tranny oil seal failure. :( that being said, the pilot of the merc is easily the best driver in the field, so beating him would be a really tough assignment.

ramielm: it wasn't pretty. he started from the back of the grid, and by the middle of lap 2, he was already leading the race. of course, it's not like he had to fight through a dozen cars, but still...

          Awesome!

It would be excellent if the teams would outfit each and every car with a GoPro or two.

we had our second race last sunday! this time, we had 8 cars on the grid, and the e30 was well represented - a basically stock 325iS took first place, while a 2.5-16v took second. an e30 M3 bagged third. it was much more interesting this time, with 3 pro drivers and two veteran club racers duking it out. in lap one alone, there were 5 overtakes, and plenty of wheel-to-wheel action between cars 2, 3 and 4.
