New changes coming to the Ring

    ''Ring'' Changes -
    Hi,

I was reading an article on the Ownership
    Changes at the Ring.
About how the local ''County' has stepped
    back in etc/

But, the Rules for ''Tourist Days'' have
also been altered and as such, taking the
view that they will be enforced, that
Cars with Cages, even Road legal, that have Door Bars
that restrict the door opening are now
    banned.

I have checked with a couple of other
sources and it seems that it will be
enforced as a means to stop 'Teams'
using Tourist Days as cheap practice
sessions, and also as a means to try
and uphold German Law for Toll/Public
Roads now that the ''State'' as such is
    back in control.

Sends the wrong message that a State
Controlled Toll Road allows Cars with
'Full' Cages where as without TUV approval
    German Law does not.

Same for Hans devices and a few other items.

Anybody else have any information in this
    regard please ?

    Regards,

    The Gorilla.

    Edit- Here are the Changes-

    * Bucket seats with ‘ears’ (as the Germans delightfully refer to them) are not allowed. Those are the seats with wrap-around head restraints.
    * The famous Hans device neck-restraint is also banned from public driving.
    * Roll cages with doorbars that restrict access are banned.
    * Roll cages must be padded. Not with proper FIA crash-absorbing materials. Nobody will check that. Just any old foam will do.
    * Aftermarket snap-off steering wheels are also verboten.
I copied and pasted from a German site.

makes sense, but then again, it sucks.

i'll likely not ever get to the nurburgring so i don't really care, but i hate that rules like these ruin 'the dream'

So as it stands anything on a tourist day and it has bars above the seating area is a No-Go for you even if it's TUV'd or Mot'd.

Nooo, you've slightly misunderstood the rules.

Basically the rules are to try and stop people from driving pure racecars on track during TF. And sometimes practicing.

This is the reasoning behind most of the rules, for example, forbidding seats with ears, such as Recaro Pro Racer and HANS. These are two things that significantly impede rear visibility.
The bar restriction is being applied to crosses that are high and go to dashboard height and the extra reinforcement bars in the A pillar, like this:

Supposedly it is because it hinders accessibility and emergency evacuation if necessary, but deep down is to try and diminish the number of full blown racecars on track.

Most of the rest were being implemented the last year when TÜV man was at the gate checking cars (and recommending insulation piping for cage padding ...).

Another item that's missing there is that drifting is now officially forbidden and carries a 250€ fine. This is the bit that scares me the most.

Anyhow, don't think there's too many on here worried about the slight change in rules.

          what if you're correcting oversteer?

I know what they are getting at. They want to eliminate high speed and your casual drivers from getting into accidents. Plain and simple. Liability issues are a factor.

That being said there are folks that are concerned since they love the open days and travel good distances to go on these days. Since rental fees are so high.

If they think you're not in control or really drifting you're done. A wiggle isn't an issue.
They've actually been doing this but no fine, just a day ban.
As with most ring rules enforcement changes with car, driver and attitude.

I'm not saying it's important, just it shouldn't put people off. I drive 1600 miles to get there so I know I'd be upset if they didn't let me in.
