I'm trying to find some good tracks in my area...

    Hey...

I'm in the Pittsburgh, PA area (SW PA) and am trying to track down some tracks that I can find HPDE schools. This is what I have so far:

    BeaveRun - Wampum, PA - 1.5hrs away
    Mid-Ohio - Lexington, OH - about 4hrs away
Gingerman - South Haven, MI - 4hrs away? never been there.

I'm looking for tracks about 4hrs away. I know of Nelson's Ledges but last time I was there (3 yrs ago) it was a dirtball of a track. Isn't there a track in Western Virginia that is pretty good? And there has to be a track in NY closer than watkins glen. I also found an autocross club that operates out of the North Hills area of Pittsburgh which should be good for a cheap fix, but I like elevation changes on my track which you tend to not get in parking lots.

    Anyway, thanks for your help.

Mid Ohio - great track. They're repaving it for this year, I plan on doing at least 5 days there in april.
Beaverrun is obviously the closest track to you, it's fairly new and is a nice little track - not pro level stuff, but definetly a good HPDE track depending on the layout they use.
Summit Pt is the track in W. Va that you're thinking of. Three circuits there, the old "Main" course, the Jefferson circuit, a rinky dink track used more for safety schools, and the new "Shenandoah" track. Shenandoah is like a balls out autox course, tons and tons of turns with a perfect replica of the Nurburgring carrussel built in to it. It looks like it would be a blast in a lower powered car such an as e30.

      Thanks Charlie...

I'm hoping to get in the high teens as far as HPDE schools go this year, but since I can only go on weekend trips I'm limited to local-ish places.

Mid-ohio is awesome and I can't wait to go back. BeaveRun is nice but surprisingly pricey for track events. However, now that I have a motor couch at my disposal, if I learn how to drive it I can just stay ring side in some serious luxury.

Do you know any schools at mid-ohio that are already taking deposits?

      Let me know

I hear Gingerman is awesome. Easy enough for a beginner, and a good amount of run-off area, but there are some technical portions to it as well, so fun for everyone. Just like Putnam. So rally up all your friends.

I'm afraid of MO. It has walls foo

Man up Heeter. I am going to do Mid-Ohio before 2006 is over. But not until I get some more learning time in elsewhere. Need be, run in a lower group and take it easy until you get more comfortable.

Charlie wants to hit it up in April 22-25 or whatever. That's a week after the holy Hoosier BMW Rites of Spring. I'm not hitting up anything back to back while a) having one car b) in school.

There will be more opportunities later in the year. Rites O' Spring is likely my first weekend. I could do Mid-Ohio in August with Buckeye CCA or again with them in October.

EDIT: I am afraid of the armco and the walls too. ;-)

Summit with out a doubt. but I live close by. It's too bad the Vert isn't allowed in any CCA events.

but of a treck, but watkins glen and mosport are somewhat near you.

in addition to my regular track day schedule (bike and car), the local forum is going to rent out mosport for a day, so there will only be 20 or so of us on the whole thing

Come down to VIR (www.virclub.com), you won't regret it.... :)

Bookmark www.trackschedule.com, my friend Coco Strayer maintains this site, and it's pretty comprehensive for DE events.
