R3Vers:
My daughter and I will be working the course for the Silver State Classic Challenge next weekend. Orientation is on Sat 5/18, race day Sunday. They still need more courseworkers. This is your chance to watch cars going 230mph on a public highway in Nevada. Nearest major city is Las Vegas.
Email from the event organizer:
We are still in need of courseworkers! So if you have friends who would like to work the event too, please have them register at http://www.sscc.us/course_workers.aspx.
The Courseworker Orientation Briefing will be on Sat
May 18
at 09:00 at the Bristlecone Convention Center in Ely, as listed on the attached cover letter and the schedule of events.
Please try to be there as early as 08:30 to register, so we can start the briefing on time. T
here's a lot to cover including the verification of your information and signing of waivers. Everyone at your gate needs to sign the waivers, so be sure they are there on Sat morning.
As you check in, you will sign the waiver forms, then pick up the
form
with your registration info and gate assignment. Please correct any errors, then exchange it at the 2nd table for your Gate folder.
Each folder has photos of your gate(s), info to locate your gate when driving down Hwy 318, a summary of Courseworker Instructions, simple instructions for operating the handheld FRS radio you will be issued, an Incident Report Form to help you pass the appropriate data to your Ham Checkpoint in case of an incident on the road, and a wire tie to close the trash bag at the end of the race.
The briefing will start as soon as all the courseworkers are present.
After the briefing, those of you who will be camping at your gate overnight will be issued your packet with radio, binoculars, locks and chains, lanyard with quick reference guide, trash bag, pen, plus tshirts, hat, water and flags.
Those of you arriving on the course on Sun morning will pick up your gear at Whipple's in Lund as you head south.
I've attached the Ham and Courseworker radio frequencies, in case you plan on taking a scanner with you on race day.
Be sure to plan on bringing
PAPER & PEN/PENCIL
FLASHLIGHT
COAT, HAT, RAIN GEAR - the weather can vary considerably during the day
WATER/ BEVERAGES for 8 to 10 hours for yourself and possible stranded drivers
SNACKS & FOOD for 8 to 10 hours
SUNSCREEN/ T.P
SHELTER of some sort if you want to avoid more of the sun!
There are no restroom facilities at most gates and checkpoints, so plan accordingly.
Take sufficient food, water and supplies to make it to the end of the race comfortably.
If you have any questions, call me at 702-334-1196.
Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday, May 18!
