Productive weekend for the Castro Spec E30

At Cal Speedway this time. I went in with some older tires that had a bunch of heat cycles on them. Unfortunately I got out on the oval and realized pretty quickly that the car was down on steam. I was only getting 125 mph on the oval and could rarely even hit 129 even with a good tow. Normally it's good for over 135 with a tow. Something was clearly amiss.

For a point-and-squirt track like Auto Club, that was kind of a death knell. E Strong put together an awesome race and managed to get his first win. Great work!

Well, all I could do was drive the thing. I ended up finishing 4th out of 11 on Saturday, thanks to a mid-race retirement from the leader, who had his timing belt jump a tooth. Tire money!

    Here's the first two laps:
First two laps of Saturday's race at Auto Club. Finished 4th.

Sunday came around and my tires were DONE. I was wondering how many heat cycles I could get out of those RRs. I didn't bother putting new ones on because I was so down on power, just didn't seem worth it. Still finished 7th that day, helped by retirements and people in front of me spinning off.

I made a bunch of lemonade that weekend.

Castro says my throttle position sensor was just out of adjustment, so I wasn't getting full juice. I may have him do a teardown anyways, since some of the internals in that motor are 4 seasons old.

    Seek and Destroy!

Here is Erick Strongs Video from Sunday. After pulling a 1rst place win on Saturday, it was backed up by a 2nd place win on Sunday.

    Metallica 'Seek and Destroy'

Experienced technical difficulties saturday and didn't get video of my first SE30 win. Qualified 3rd, dropped back to 9th on the start, and worked my way up…

Buttonwillow should be fun as we expect to have Sean Trapp 'Back In Black' as well as Erick Strong back out and kicking ass for the season ender.

      Sweet!

Usually I can give Strong a run for his money, but man he just drove away from me this time. He was flying!

Yeah, usually we're good for 130, 131 before we turn (the scrub stops acceleration), 135 or so with a tow. I hit 141 once after a bump draft from a 944.

Turns out two of the valves weren't seated right. The car idles a lot cleaner now, hopefully it should be back up around the 150hp you need to be competitive!

My favorite part of that video is in the first chicane, I'm patting myself on the back for passing two people, then the braking zone goes wizzing by and they get me right back. Whoops!

How many heat cycles are the RR's good for? Better or worse than the RA1?
