    Autocross brake pads

Ok, building my autox monster... looking for input on brake pads.
in order to let you know what I am dealing with, here are some stats:

    GC coilovers
    s52 motor
    3.46 lsd
    m3 e36 front / e30 rear 5 lug conversion with 25mm master cylinder
    17x8.5 wheels with 225/40/17 hoosiers(track) or star2(wet/street).
    interior is gutted
car will be driven to and from local events.

looking at stock pads, hawks, ebcs, porterfields....

    input welcome...

Well, with that 5 lug your bias is hilariously frontwards (i.e. crap), so for track stuff you are going to want to do everything you can to shift bias towards the rear. Different compounds, find Z3M rears, etc.

For autocross, it's less important. Carbotech AX6, Hawk HP+, PFC Z-rated are all solid performers if you really want to throw money at it, otherwise just run stock stuff (or whatever pad you track on). You'll be autocrossing in SM, and will be completely outgunned by Evos and S14s, so just run whatever pad you want and have fun.

hadn't thought about bias issues...guess I should consider bias adjuster.. or..

I also have a set of non-m3 e36 front splindles and brakes, I could just as easily use those and e-bay the m3 set.

As far as car classification, I run with a small local group, we don't use the standard SCCA classes...we have around a dozen and my car will fit into what we call Prepared Sedan...should be competative...my weakness is the nut behind the wheel...

HP+'s are a nice auto-x pad, plenty of cold bite and can take some heat (they will burn up at an actual track); they're just terribly noisy and dusty (about the same as any track pad on the street) so you have weight that out...

That's an interesting class! What other cars are in the class?

We have three basic "sedan" classes bases on engine size. Three "sport" classes same break down.... Prepared sedan, prepared sport classes for cars with after market boost, engine swaps, or gutted interior... Then a modified sedan and sports class for purpose built cars running on non-dot tires.. We have started a PAX class which is popular with SCCA visitors... We also have a few people that run in STS,TS,STX...and a novice class

Cars in the prepared class I will be running in include a 66 mustang, a WRX, a couple of XR4TIs, 66 Corvair, Mustang Cobra, Toyota Tacoma, and a Scirocco. To name a few

I use Hawk DTC-30's and love them. The car sees mostly autox and some occasional track use, and drives to and from all events.

Interesting, the Hawk site lists the DTC-30's as Circle Dirt Track pads. Wouldn't had thought of them for an autocross/street car...

                Thanks

I have UUC's BBK, and they have the compound as autox and track. I have used them for almost 2 full seasons with good results. I have tried street pads, but they died pretty quickly. I have full race on hand, but don't have slicks to utilize them and they cannot be used on the street at all. They also won't work for autox as they need a great deal of heat. IMO, the DTC-30 is a great compromise.

Thanks, I looked over booth Hawk Performance and UUC's website...and They don't list the 30's in the size I need.... using e36m3 calipers up front and e30m3 calipers in the back... They list other DTC pads.. might look into the 60's or BLUE's...

60's are the track pads I have and they're too aggressive for autox use, you'll never get to the temps you need to get any decent performance out of them. Of your two choices I'd go for the street oriented pad, they'll have the best initial cold bite and you won't cook them in autox.
