I was told the tread compound is harder on the inside for this reason; the compound is softer on the outside for cornering grip.

from the ops list ive owned two and driven on all of them, in fact the dz101's are still in my garage and the bfgs are still on the car.

here is my order from best to worst

      BFG Sport Comp 2

      Dunlop Direzza DZ101

      Nitto NEOGEN

      Falken 912

the dunlops and the bfgs are very close in both tread wear and grip but i think the bfgs slightly edge out the dunlops in both respects and they tend to handle abuse better before they begin to lose grip do to overheating. but none of those tires are going to handle anywhere close to their bigger brothers the Dunlop Z2 and the BFG Rivals..

I'm glad to hear that I made the right choice!

I just can't ever convince myself to spend the money for the 'best' tires. I have a hard time justifying the cost for the Dunlop ZII's or BFG Rivals, when I'm certain the cheaper tires provide more grip than I am capable of taking effective advantage of.

BFg's!! But if not them I would actually choose Continentals extreme sport contact DW ... They were the first set of tires I got for my E30, I found them to be awesome on the road. At the track I would say their on par with the bfg's but after a few track days their out of heat cycles,
