    Hans devices question

So for now I just use a standard neck roll, for this years season i would like to get a HANS device for piece of mind.

I don't have insanity budget for a set up so what is out there realistically?

It's about $400-800 for a HANS device IIRC. You'll also need a HANS compatible helmet, most of which will need to have fittings put in, pretty simple.

I guess I'll make my way to HMS when I get home. When ever that's gonna happen.

I like the new one, its a NECKSGEN, called NECKSGEN REV.

It is a single tether designed to be able to freely move your head from side to side (shoulder checking) and is $600 CDN. most newer helmets that are SNELL 2005 or 2010 will have the flat spots and pre drilled holes, however , where ever you getr the restraint from, can help you install it I am sure.

WELL WORTH THE MONEY. I will post a video when I can of a rally car hitting the ditch at a slow speed, driver without and navigator with a Head and neck device.

remember, You can break your neck at a dead stop from only 40 KM/h

Check ebay. They come up all the time, especially at the end of the season. Unless you're racing, you don't need a current SFI sticker. Buy one with expired SFI sticker for $400.

I use the Rage Hybrid, and absolutely recommend it. I've been borrowing one from another guy on the Chump Car team (we have a driver between his stint and mine, so it's easy to swap it over), but I'm buying on for myself this year so I'll have one for DE's, too...

                  thanks for posting the video.

another thing to consider is how are YOU fastened in the car? I know the necksgen requires a 5 point harness with shoulder belts. some others, like the hybrid may be a stand alone unit (you can use your regular standard two belt stock system

A real HANS device also means that you need a HANS compatible seat, cage and harness. There are other options that aren't as dependent on the seat, cage and harness, but they may not have the proven performance of the real thing.

Having been in a incident at high speed (that completely destroyed the car) while wearing a HANS and seeing what happened to the car, seat cage, and HANS afterward, there is no way I'd trust anything else. Nor would I drive on track w/o the HANS.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Bring your helmet to HMS and they will install the Hans pieces on your helmet (nc). There is also a shoulder belt width that you need to have to have the Hans work properly. HMS should be able to tell you what that spec is. Good luck

If you're an instructor and are in student cars, or you have a car that doesn't have a cage and 5pt+ harnesses, look into the Simpson R3. It's the only HNR that's approved to be used with 3 point OEM style belts AND race harnesses. I wore one at my last lemons race and I thought the part that runs down the center of your back would be irritating, but I forgot about it within 1/2 a lap. Great piece:
