    Fun in CSP, eh?

    - The SPAC is recommending the following class change proposal package, effective 1/1/2007 and published here for member comment (ref.
    06-096):
    - Re-class the following cars from DSP to BSP:
    - BMW 323, 325 & 328 (E36 chassis); combine with M3 (E36), M3 Lightweight listing in BSP on the same line
    - BMW 6-cylinder (E46 chassis), except M3
    - Lexus IS300
    - Re-class from DSP to CSP, BMW 325 and 328 (E30 chassis), on separate line from M3 (E30)
Funny thing is I assume 318is and eta would remain, and I saw one of each doing decent on the national tour in DSP.

But an e30 325is would be dead with all those Miatas running even faster than the E36 DSP cars were.

So complain and write about how F'ed this is. More reason to rock a 318is though.

Who cares? Autox for ME at least... is for fun. Does it "really" matter what class you run in?

Neither for me. But all the cone-serious guys on bf.c should surely care. (not that anyone was running an e30 away though)

        Hahaha, fuck you SCCA!

Seriously, fuck the SCCA. These cars would be dead unless they were prepped to Schipkov-level in CSP.

So what Mazdas were complaining about the big bad BMWs in DSP?

Will, you better become serious soon.

If any of you guys ever thought of autocrossing with SCCA, now is the time to voice your opinion.

Even with my level of preparation, which took over five years and uncounted amounts of time, money, and efforts I highly doubt that E30 would be any competive aginst CSP cars.

Things could be worse. A competitive CSP E30? Previous results ('06 ProSolo, National Tour) seem to indicate a course-dependent outcome. A competitive BSP E30? Yeah right...

The E30's used to run in CSP back in 97-2000, they weren't competitive then, I don't really see that changing a lot if it goes back.

285s and 18x10.x wheels change a number of things...

Having said that, I think moving the non-M E30s to CSP will essentially destroy any desire for a newbee E30 driver to even consider the SP class. Alex has built a very potent (and expensive) weapon, and I seriously doubt few others would be willing to commit similar resourses. SCCA has to know this. With the exception of Alex, only one E30 has been entered in DSP competition at the national level so far in 2006, and yes, I failed miserably. Makes you wonder whether SCCA has it out for Alex?

After thinking about this during breaks at work, here are two things.
                        1) Maybe its about time for people to start trying to win like Garrick and Alex with e30's. In the grand scheme of things, their cars are not "wildly modded" or anything, they just are not half-assed. There is still time to be had with the e30's, just like every other car.
                        2) Will the whole Florida track layout issue have a factor? If courses are limited in speed and have tighter layouts now due to that ruling back early in the season, perhaps the e30 can shine.

I cannot imagine a E30 competing with a Miata in CSP. The miata is lighter, makes similar power (around 150rwhp), and has superior suspension.

It would be interesting if the E36 was bumped out of DSP as I think it could allow quite a few cars to become competitive in DSP again, the E30 being one of them.

At the same time, I think the E36 would be in a much tougher camp running against Vettes, S2000's and the like. Those with already built E36's would be scramling to get S52 motors in to their cars and the aluminum doors which are nearly impossible to find anymore, it would cost them MUCH more money and likely create some controversy.

I like the idea of the BMW's and IS300 going into CSP...not BSP...who the Fuck thought of that??
The two cars are in a league of their own in DSP. So if you actually want to win in DSP, you get the BMW or the IS300.

The 285 30 18 makes these cars tough and very fast.

The E36 and the E30 tune way better than the miata does. No question the BMW would have the advantage there. The Miata is lighter no doubt but the miata can only fit a 205 50 15, 225 45 15, 225 45 13 or 215 45 13 without fucking their gearing. Not very wide.
Moving these cars out of DSP will allow several cars to actually be competitive in DSP.

                              Scratch that...
And the MR2 Spyder and the Miata should go to BSP. Fuck them. They get better times than DSP by seconds. They sit right about where the BSP cars do in terms of time.
They need to revamp the whole thing. Even the RSX is currently in CSP...what a fucking joke.
