    STX Tires - 205 RE71R vs 225 Rival S

Curious if anyone has experience comparing the two tires. I wold run either on a 15X8 TRM C1.
    • 205/50/15 Bridgestone RE-71R
    • 225/45/15 BFG Rival S

My inclination is to go with the wider tire, but with stretching the 205 on an 8" wheel I'm not sure there's all that much difference. My friend is suggesting the smaller RE-71R's will be as fast or faster for a lower price (he drives an STU Corvette with Ohlins and 275 square RE-71R's).

What do you guys think? On the E30 is there a tire that will perform better than the other?

What about the Hankook RS3 in a 225/45/15? I had a set of those on my M3 and was beating guys on Hoosiers.

Tire Rack lists the RE-71Rs having an 8.4" section width on a 7" wide wheel. Using TR's guideline that each .5" of wheel width adds .2" of section width, the RE-71R would have around 8.8" section width on an 8" wide wheel.

The frustrating thing is that they do not list the wheel that the section width was measured on a 225/45R15 Rival S. The Rival S has an 8.9" section width. Similar tires (R1R and R-S3) have a section width of 8.9" on a 7.5" wheel. So on an 8" wheel, these would measure in at 9.1".

Will .3" make a large difference? I think given that the RE-71R and Rival S compounds are both the cream of the crop right now, and it might honestly come down to how communicative each tire is rather than anything else.

I haven't used either of these tires yet and I doubt I will, because of the way points work with the time trial club I belong to.

Everyone says the RE-71R and the Rival S are faster tires than the RS3. They were the tires to beat in 2015 so I wanted to see if there was any sort of feel for whether or not the extra width of the Rival S 225 was worth it over the RE-71R

I've had the first Gen Rivals and the Second Gen RS3s and i can easily say the RS3s were better. But I have seen people running the New Rivals and they seem better than the originals.
