    Obtaining SCCA license... Whats involved?

My father wants to go ahead and get his license. What is involved? how hard is it? what does it cost? and is it difficult? any input would be nice and appriciated. Thanks.

Yes a race license so that he can road race. He is either going to build a itb car or a spec miata.

Try the SCCA website. I know you either have to have a couple of racing schools down (not hpde's) or a certain amount of hours.

You (or your father) will need to attend one of only a few SCCA Sanctioned RACING schools around the country. I've been to Jim Russell, Skip barber, and Stephens Brothers, all excellent schools. You will then have your "rookie certificate". What this entitles you to do is to compete/complete 2 rookie regional races (pending no accidents/mistakes/incidents). After that, you will be issued your "regional" SCCA License. You will THEN need to participate in 2 national level races, again without incident, and you will then receive your national SCCA license. And that's only what is involved in getting a club racing license... Even more if you're looking for a Pro SCCA license!
