E30 M42 Turbo at Willow Springs

We finally got our E30 M42 turbo car on the track.

    Here are some links:

Recap: We pulled the M20 out of this car. The M20 version of the car did 150hp at the rear wheels. The M42 car received its first dyno tune last Tuesday. It produced 283hp at the rear wheels. We think we can broaden the torque curve with more tuning.

We took the car to Willow Springs Sunday 8/12 to test it on the track.

The car was really fast and fun to drive.

That's awesome. How much were you running to make that power? Also, did you convert to solid lifters? My dad and myself are in the process of doing a turbo M42 and this is really cool to see.

      Thanks,
      Ben

My buddy Rob and I own the car.

I have to give Rob all the credit for the turbo upgrade project. He did the research and put in the long hours completing the engine project.

The engine is under 2 liter, custom pistons and no head work.

We are running the stock lifters.

We are running about 15lbs of boost to make 283hp at the wheels.

This was a few month back when we first got the engine running.

                    Prior to dyno tuning.

We have cleaned up the engine bay since.

Paul was consistently turning 1:39's and hitting better than 130 MPH on the front straight. We know there is more time to find in the car, but part of the solution would be more tire. Apply the throttle in any turn and the rear would break free. It was especially easy to do in 3 and 5. I think on the current setup he could get another 3-5 seconds with some practice. Keep in mind this was his first day on the track in this car ever, the first time at Willow in 12 months, and first time on any track in 10 months. I'm not as quick nor in as fast a group and I turned mid-1:40's.
