does anyone know how to get started? what are the costs? i was thinking of buying eighther a volkswagon gti or another e30 and convertying them into a mild club race car. any advise will help. thnks.

Alot of shops have rental racers, you could try one of these before you sink alot of cash in building a car that might not even be class legal. SCCA would be best palce to start.

You can race in Spec for close to nothing, in terms of car preparation.

Note I said close. There are inherent costs in any form of racing.

It's unfortunate that you're in California, there will be sessions at the BMW CCA TechFest East (starting tomorrow) devoted to Getting Started in Club Racing. I'm sure there is plentiful information on the subject though. DE's are the starting point. Also look into Spec E30 (like Spec Miata)

ive done some research and ive decided that an e30 would be a nice car for autocross racing. i dont think i could stand a fwd car.

I've got a 4dr 325i that's undergoing track-prep... It's just sitting in the driveway, so I figure it's a good excuse to have a second E30 for fun's sake.

one of the reasons i want to start is becuase i think it would be fun to build a track car. but if this is the best way to go......

Starting from scratch equals big money withdrawn from account. Seriously think about maybe a rental racer or a spec to start to make sure you like it.
