    Weekend Membership?

My local chapter sent this in our e-mail:
National SCCA is now requiring all participants in all types of events to be either regular or temporary weekend members. This requirement ensures that all participants in events are fully covered by the event insurance. The Weekend Membership fee is $5.00 per event and will be included in the entry fee for non-SCCA member competitors.

Is this a new national thing for 2008?
How much does your local autocross cost all around the country?

Here, members pay $20 and non member now pay $35
I'm just wondering if this is some BS my local place is doing to jack me for $5 more bucks

I was under the impression it is a national deal. Our fees are about the same as yours.

It's nationwide, they're jacking up the insurance, and the SCCA is passing it on to the local clubs, who in turn are now required to pass it to the members & nonmembers. NASA had a 9 dollar rate hike this year to cover their new insurance plan as well.

and all for 6 minutes total of driving.

Pretty soon a hooker is going to be cheaper and fun for longer.

Damn, we're lucky to get 3-4 around here. People always say track days are expensive.

The fee will vary by region. I think the minimum charge from SCCA National is $5 and they were 'encouraging' the regions to charge $10 or more, probably in the blind belief more people will join the national club.
