    245/35/17??? anyone??? bueller? bueller?

I have a set of style 135 17x8 wheels with a e36 5lug conversion. I’m thinking of running 245/35/17 Toyo Proxes T1s The car is geared mostly towards track use so I want the widest tire possible. I've heard of people running 245’s but I'm not sure how much modification is required or how much steering loss to expect.

I’ve had this post up on the tire and wheel sticky for a week now and no responses. Someone has to know something…

I think IL Duce ran on his old car the e36 suspension with 8.5" DS2's front and rear and had 245/35-17's front and rear. I am not sure what he had to do to make them work if anything at all.

What did the style 135's come off of? What is the et of the wheels?

All I found was 18" style 135's when I did a search for the et of the wheels.

FWIW, which may not be much, I have 245/35/17 Kumho on 17x9 ET20 (35mm Sportmax 002 with a 15mm spacer) on the rear. Could use a little lip roll, but I haven't gotten around to it.

Soon I'll have the E30 M3 hardwar mounted, and I'll have the same tires on a 17x9 ET19 rear (E31 Style 5). I figure it'll need a wee bit more fender roll then. No biggie.

Fronts are 215/40 so that's no use to you.

LOL I just saw this added to the smilies choices. Looks like I'll be saying soon. :- )

as you know that is one of the only 245/35/17 tires. but they are t1s and t1r and such on the track because of their street oriented tread and soft sidewalls (everbody always wears out the outside). How many track events have you done? you'll find that tire width matters much less then the right tire compound and sidewall stiffness.

track oriented tires will physically be wider then other brands. I would bet money that a 235/40/17 dunlop direzza z1 is physically wider then the 245/35 toyo and has a wider contact patch due to the stiffer sidewalls keeping the patch on the ground. get 235/40 17 tires and pick the right model, don't cop-out and buy a tire based purely on its size.

The new bad boy Toyo R1R is supposed to be coming out in 245/35/17 very soon.

I'll second all of that. People get hung up on width numbers, but that doesn't always equal more traction, especially when the 245/35's available are luxury-oriented street tires (the T1-R and FK-452). I wouldn't want to be on either in a track environment.

If the new R1-R comes in 245/35 then we have something to consider. Until then...go to 235/40. There are AWESOME choices there (AD07, RE-01R, RT-615, R-S2, 595RS-R, etc etc).

Dave, I still hate you for those wheels. If ya want, I will take them and keep them in excellent condition for you until you get the 5-lug setup going.

235-40-17 r comps if you really plan on doing a lot of track driving..if its mixed track and street go with rs2 or rt615s like rhet said...otherwise dont bother with toyos..junk tires. they do make eagle f1 gsd3 in 245 35 17 but still..not worth it.
