    Who Here Tracks an M42?

I stopped in the middle of some R&D for the M42.

I was testing a intake manifold port and runner design and never really tried it in the real world (I just haven't had the time).

If someone with a stock induction e30 M42 wants to try it, all I need from them is a plenum and lower manifold.

I'll port shape it and send it back for them to try on their car.

    The catch:

I want some solid feedback... and I don't want to spend any money on shipping.

Not sure if they are allowed intake manifold changes in STS but Terry Fair is building a full on autox car for STS with his 318is......The Vorshlag Motorsports guys. You would get solid feedback from them FOR SURE......Might wanna look them up.

Interested to see how this turns out. I'm picking up a 318is on Sunday for track use (and gas mileage on the way to/from!). They are neat little cars. A little help in the power department wouldnt hurt though.

I could help as well, but I'm a long way away and also have no spares :(. I might be able to get ahold of some, though.

My daily driver is a '91 318is (well okay it's 2 liters now).
Ask the guys local to me about it.... Hauls ass & blows doors....and still gets 30+ mpg.

The induction is of a fairly radical design...

This manifold concept I was working on is also a little out there in it's design.

Looks like Joe here from Ohio is going to test it out.

Just bigger bores... way over square. Major, major project. Titanium rods, forged pistons...the only things that weren't done were shim and bucket lifters and ITBs (hence the legendary "S" 42...F1 power-plant)

I just want to point out that THIS is the section were people use their cars for what they are intended and as such are the most likely to give objective feedback of results

                            tracked my M42

Had it at Poconos with BMW drivers school. Handled great with GC coilover... But there is no replacement for displacement. Revs nice but no pull power when coming out of turns. My buddies '91 318is has a S50 swap and he said it ate up the e30 M3's ...which he has..

Nice. Yeah, the M42 is a bit low on power...
