    $2008 GRM Challenge

    Hello everyone,
Another year has passed, and my cousin Jimmy and I have just returned from the $2008 Grassroots Motorsports challenge. We had a blast, filled with many ups and downs, but we ended up surpassing our obstacles(car not starting) and completing every part of the event. We were the highest placing E30 in attendance, and placed 16th out of over 51 competitors. You can see pics of the project build and read about our adventures here:

This site is created to document the progress of me and my cousin's 1988 BMW 325IS turbo built exclusively for the GRM challenge. It will begin with all of the older pics from the build and Challenge competition in 2007, and continue with the car in its current state of progress.

I will constantly be updating it with new pictures as they become available, so check back often.

Here are 2 more links so you can see the competition. Copy and paste into your browser if the links wont work:

Welcome to the home of Grassroots Motorsports, the hardcore sports car magazine—and your home for car reviews, tips, and road racing news.

Feel free to post on any forums or automotive sites, just let me know where you post it.

    thanks
    Carlos

That's pretty awesome! Once I'm out of college I'll probably have to build a car for that. Can I buy your front lip? ;)

thanks, If i remember correctly The front lip is off an ETA. I had to cut it in half and rivet it back together, it was a bit wider than the e30 front fascia. Got it at a junkyard for like $17 or something.

Congrats on your superb placement!! I helped build the 4wd escort that placed 15th.
I dig many of those details you did on the car.
Info on my e30 from $2006 is floating around here somewhere.

thanks, We are super happy with the placement.
THat escort was amazing! I couldn't believe the work that went into it. I was looking at the suspension setup, and man, that looked like a lot of work getting all those parts to fit together.

wow I really like that olive green color. It is a very nice color on the E30. Great job in placement as well.

It's Sherwin Williams outdoor semi-gloss paint mixed to match Krylon Olive Drab. We shot it with a $14.99 spray gun from Harbor Freight and a 15 gallon Craftsman air compressor. I think it cost about $30 in materials to shoot the car.

First one I missed in 4 years.

Did you guys run my old clutch?

PS. No, I don't want to talk about how WR did.

                              Hi Matt, how's it going?
No, we didn't use your old clutch, but thanks so much for sending it we appreciate it. It was too heavy for our application, and we were able to source a used clutch in better condition.
Sorry about Wreck Racing, they were having major problems all weekend! Very surprising considering the size of their team! Will we see you next year?
