    Houston AutoX

This Sunday... anyone else heading there?? It's a BMWCCA event and unforutnatly my car has so many points against it that I have to run in AST. That's the class with all the e46 m3's, and mini's. Last time I beat one M3 and a couple of minis. Hopefully I can do a little better this time.

I was there. I had the Silver M3 that was parked just ahead and to the left of your car. I was actually admiring the wheels on your car (I just bought a 91 318is.... so these things fascinate me :D ).

Hope you had a good time. I had the 3rd fastest time of the day and won AA.

Hey John. You had this car didn't you?

That thing looked great. It sits nice and low like my '95 M3 did. Congrats on the runs!!

I didn't do too bad for my second time out, 9th out of 15 in the AST class. Tough competition in there for an old e30 :) It was my '89, Brett's '94 and the rest were all '01 and newer.

That would be me. Thanks for the compliments!

It was good to see all the E30s out there. I know I spoke with John with the Auto ETA.

I've got a 318is (91) that will start showing up out there soon. Several of us are picking up E30s... trying to get a little friendly (and inexpensive) competition going!

Ya'll need to make the PCA auto-x at Gulf Greyhound Park on Oct 10th. They usually have really fast courses. Lots of runs too! Unfortunately, I'll be out of the country... but the turnout should be great. Not to mention that it is supposed to be the Porsche / BMW Challenge and we can use all the BMW drivers we can get!

Bah, the newer a car is the worse it is at auto-x. A bone stock '02 was cleaning up at my last event due to light weight, and my class (modified 3's, M cars) was absolutely dominated by the E30's. E46's for example are massively overweight and don't have LSD's. E30's should be cleaning up out there (with suitable rubber, of course). 8)

Well there were e46 m3's, an e39 M5, and a bunch of Cooper S's. Those were the ones that were really getting it.

I'll be at the Oct. one. Should actually make the rest of them this season. I really need to pick up some 15's with track tires to run on though.

An E30 with good rubber should beat on either the M3 or M5. Seriously. The Minis would be very close though.

Well I did beat the m5 and an m3. The track layout is also a huge contributor to whether or not an e30 will do well. An open fast track will not benefit an e30 as much as a tight one, so saying the e30 should do better across the board isn't exactly true.

Anyway, it was a fun day. I was running my street tires and it was my second autocross. I improved my times each run so I'm happy with my results.

Very true, I forget you guys down there have more open setups. I barely come out of 2nd in my various events, never exceed 45mph probably. I think bigger ones kind of destroy the point of auto-x, I love having to deal with the tighter stuff. :D
