Anyone tried LowTec setup for Auto-X?

As the subject says, I'm wondering how the LowTec setup is working for autocross cars. It seems the spring rates are between H&R Sports and H&R Race, but I'm not sure about the dampers will react.

I'm considering doing this setup with the group buy, but interested to see if anyone's tried it against any other known setup as far as AX goes.

    Thanks for any input.

im running the 60/50 Lowtec drop w/ Lowtec shocks, and I'm happy with the performance on the autox. I had H&R race/Koni on my old car, but can't make a direct comparison since I'm running more extreme rubber on this car. If there's anything specific you'd like to know go ahead and ask, I wish I could give more useful info :P

          Ok, more specifics.

I'm running an 86 325. It's fairly stock, only chipped at the moment. I'm working on suspension/street tires next. I'm either going to run on Hankook R-S2s on caps or possibly V710s on 15x7 Kosei K1-Tses. I won't be competitive in STX, but I'll probably end up in DSP.

I have a season or two under my belt, working on honing skills right now, but am running on a stock suspension on horrible tires, and the suspension is shot. I'm looking at doing either the GB deal of LowTec, or doing Koni Yellows with (preferably) TMS J-Stock springs or H&R Race springs. If I can find either of those latter two used, I'll probably jump.

BTW, the car is also a daily driver, and I have 2 kids who are usually with me, but they LOVE "spirited" driving, and they'll be fine putting up with a stiff suspension.

For Nic, what were you running with you had the Konis/H&R Race? Wouldn't happen to still have that setup around for sale, would you? ;) Also, what rubber are you using on what size wheels? Any clearance issues?

          TIA

I ran 205/55/15 BFG G-Force Sports on 15X7 Euroweaves on the old car, suspension is long gone

I run 225/50/15 RS2s on the same Euroweaves on this car, fenders are rolled and pushed out at the edges a bit

If I'm not mistaken the J stock springs are in a different league of stiffness, I wouldnt bother with those on a DD. theyd probably pair well with the rcomps though(then again people autox on rcomps with stock suspension, crazy)

I think the Lowtecs are more similar in stiffness to the races than the sports.. the butt dyno can't tell the difference.

I like the Lowtecs better than the H&Rs simply due to the price and ride height.. as far as performance and comfort go its a tossup from my experience. the only springs I can directly compare them too are Eibachs, which are way too soft. A friend has the same tires on his e30 but with an Eibach suspension, and he was way more body roll.. heres a pic of mine(sidewall flex!!!)

I know the J-Specs are going to be crazy stiff, but them being progressive would help ease the thought a little... just a little.

I think LowTecs would be fine on the street... 280/450, right? Sports are WAY too soft, I'm just wishing the dampers on the lowtecs were adjustable, like the Konis.

We're having a Test n' Tune in late march in my region... hoping to have suspension ready to go by then, no matter which way I go.

So, I see you're running STX. I know the R-S2 is probably only like, 5th best choice for the tire in that class, but how are you doing against other racers in your region in STX? I know it's a tough class.

I don't drive competitively, and the car isn't well suited for the class, so I can't say I've ever paid much attention to the other cars in the class. I just run in whichever class my friends run in for the day, and end up finishing somewhere towards the bottom of the standings.. :)

I have low tech 60/50s also. I think the ride is awsome. I have 195/60/14 tires, stock sways, and worn out rear bushings and I have a lot of rear end dip that makes the car kinda plow in the front. Body roll will be better with sways.
I think the rear springs should be stiffer.
