Changing Thread Titles

I know that if you want to change your thread title, you just double click on it in the forum it is listed in, but my issue is that if I double click, the link still opens and therefor doesn't allow me to change anything (because it opens the thread). I have to quickly hit escape to stop the page loading after I double click.

Am I missing something with this, or is it just how it is? Why not make the titles editable when you click the edit post button? Didn't it used to be like this?

If you do "go advanced" you can edit said title....iirc

Or you can just double click to the right of the link. That works too.
