Thanks rogue - I figured it out in the end.

Trick is to upload using the manage attachments toll and then attach the images once they've been uploaded using the attach (paperclip) icon.

Works great - and ensures the images will be there for "ever".

I've been doing a lot of searching through old threads lately and it's really frustrating when there are references to images which aren't visible.
