    Machine Shop in Socal

Can someone recommend a good machine shop in socal? I need to rebuild a head. I would prefer if they do BMW specific work. TIA

I called United Machine shop and they quoted $280 for a valve job and resurfacing the head along with hot tank, bead blast, clean it up and inspect the cam all the rockers, rocker shafts and valve springs, guides, look for cracks, etc....

Kelly's basically quoted me the same thing for $160 + $50 if the deck needs to be resurfaced.

I also called the M shop in Eagle Rock and they use United as well.

Both prices are without new parts. I didn't ask about seals. But the guy at Kelly's explained that if I wanted to run bigger valves that the seat might not have enough to machine and new seats and installation is another cost. Also if the guides need replacing he said it would be $102 for all 12 minus the price of parts.

Alright thanks, I think I'll go to Kelly's. Waiting to receive this 731 head that needs some work. I wanna use an i manifold but I heard the intake ports need to be enlarged to use this manifold and both places said they don't do porting. Where can I get the porting done?

I talked to IE and they use Foreign Machine Shop on Walnut in Pasadena. His prices were pretty sky high though. Rebuilding a head is getting more and more expensive.... :(

einstein..do you have a complete 885 head? rockers, rocker shaft, cam etc.?

Yes. I took it apart though. I wanted to toss in a bigger cam and larger intake valves without any downtime. I decided to spend the money on my VW head instead so downtime won't be an issue anymore.
