Steel sounds awesome and I've considered it but then I started thinking more about it.
Banging it out = same labor as replacing.
    Rust.
    Cooling?
And is it possible to bend it as far as to hit the pump? Lol.

Best solution is be more aware when driving. I have a skid plate and still drive in a manner like I don't have one.

You bust a pan, you had it coming when lowering your car severely lol

Or don't lower you're car so much that your oil pan hits everything? Seems like common sense to me.

But speaking of lower, I need to drop my car an inch or so eventually. (Note: Stock Ride Height)

Banging it out still requires you to pull the pan but at least you won't have to spend an additional 60-80 to replace your pan.

Rust is not an issue. Especially since most m20s are covered in oil. But if you have a rare leak free engine a little bit of engine enamel goes a long way.

The e30 came with a undertray that hindered the air flow from cooling the pan. M20B20s have oil coolers so the extra cooling from an aluminum oil pan is unnecessary.

I don't see how a shattered aluminum pan can provide protection to an oil pump.

Replacing the pan ain't too bad, the gasket and amount of bolts is just annoying and time consuming.

And +1 on the motorwerks plate, quality shit right thar.
