i'm pretty sure the DME is toast because the car will idle but dies under any load, even while still hooked up. the battery WAS good, probably not anymore either.

It probably burnt up a few things. His something like this happen when I jumped a newer car at my job. It ended up frying my fuel pump.

Sounds like the guy owes you an MS unit. Go to your free legal council and get their assistance. You should have video taped it. If he fries his own car then he doesn't have a leg to stand on. Worst case small claims court but I doubt your school would let it go that far to save $500.
