good bit of writing, omar..in reaction to that i think that all the criticism is misplaced as well. top gear is constantly bashing on everything - i mean the entirety of the segment in the deep south (US) was a constant picking of american stereotypes and slapping american 'values' down every branch of the tree. in the test laps they even used a fat stig blaring country music in boots, iirc. they've also made attacks on the common sterotypes of canadians, germans, french, russians, and just about every part of eastern europe. the sterotype bashing isn't new on that show.
i think people are getting mad because they see this clip on the news as a 'car show' without any real experience as to the kind of perpetual satire that it really is, and consider it offensive. look at family guy - they attack race directly and people don't take it too seriously because it's a cartoon. remember the diabeto segment?
maybe it's not the same, but when i see shows that make fun of the japanese for being a bunch of scrawny, quiet, bowing, yes-men, i don't get offended - i laugh because although i personally don't carry those same physiological tendencies (although many of you may disagree, assholes!), many japanese do.
if you're not fat and lazy, then who cares? the next time you see a large mexican man in a pancho taking a nap on a parkbench somewhere, have a little chuckle and call it a day.
