His ticket mentions nothing about the referee.
99% of the time a modified exhaust ticket requires a visit to a state referee.

Yea it doesnt mention anything about state referee but the cop that pulled me over said I could take it to a smog shop and get a decible reading and the judge might let me off. I am willing to go if its a free inspection the only thing I'm worried about is I heard if you don't pass smog or w/e they won't even bother doing a sound check I don't think my car will pass smog at least last time it didn't I have 19lb injects use to have a chip took that out. But yea could you hit me up with that number for referee?

that option was available when they closed the state referees down for a bit but since then that no longer happens

I'm not saying you're wrong but the last 4 times I got a ticket for a loud exhaust it was a fine and not a ref ticket.

Think of it this way OP. You got a ticket for being a public nuisance for being too loud. Not because your car doesn't have the proper emission controls. It is the same ticket they would give a loud ass Harley.

You gotta pay to play. If you don't want to continue to get pulled over put a stock muffler back on. If you do so, you can always go to court, plead guilty, show the judge a receipt from a exhaust shop that you put a stock muffler back on, and if he's nice he'll reduce the fine to just court fees.

Honestly though, it just depends on what this is all worth to you. When I was 16 years old I had time and no money so I fought tickets like these in court. Now, I would lose more money taking a day off and trying to fight it rather then just paying the fine. It all comes down to what your time is worth.

Which ever way you decide to go, best of luck.

He in Torrance ( still LA county ) as long as you arnt driving like a tard and doing stupid shit they wont fuck with you. Ive had my spin tech for 3 months now and have plenty of times with cops next to me.( lots of back fire ) Look happy and dont drive like a tard. Know when and where to be loud.

Wow I must say I just read a lot of mumbo jumbo.
I just closed out my loud/ modified exhaust ticket.
I didn't have to go to state referee I just had a cop that comes into my work sign it off. Also I'm running same setup exhaust as you and I just smogged my car 3 months ago With the exhaust, 19lb injectors and open element air filter. That was at a state smog center no shady business.
Anyways good luck. If you are suppose to go to state referee you would have been notified. Check the back of the ticket for a area for it to be signed off should be.
                  sigpic-Thanks warren

It's not a moving violation. Therefore, its not a point on your license. That's why you just pay these things and get over it.

Your ticket its NOT a fix-it ticket, its just a ticket. You pay a fine for doing something illegal. Its not a correctable fine for something being wrong with your car that you can fix and get "signed off".

I would not bother going to court, just get your fine in the mail and pay it. If you go into court and try to fight it or plead guilty, you will pay the fine PLUS court fees. If you dont want more tickets, get a new muffler that is quiet and does not draw attention.

This has nothing to do with the referee or BAR or SMOG or anything like that. Its the same as not stopping at a STOP sign, you just get a fine so the state can make money.

go to court anyway, most judges reduce fines drastically.
