About to go postal on CHP/LA county

Alright so I got a fix it ticket for my exhaust a few months ago, which I definitely deserved it was stupid how loud the car was. Also got nailed for having the car registered out of state and what not, so I had to get a catalytic converter, quieter exhaust and get the car registered in California. I did all of that, cost me a ton of money to do all of it.

I left work early (which was hard for me to get out of) to take it to the CHP station today and I turned the car on for the officer and he just says "negative" and walks back inside and doesn't sign it, WTF? I go back inside and he asks me what I'm doing, and I said "what's wrong?" and he goes "I'm not signing that off" and I said "well it's legal to have an aftermarket exhaust" and he responds with "I do not care, it must be as quiet as it was when it was brand new, go to another station and see if they will sign it off, I will not sign that car off."

I have to be in court tomorrow over all of this and I have nothing to show for it, I don't even want to think how much money I've spent total trying to fix this shit :hitler::hitler::hitler::hitler::hitler::hitler:

Mostly money, a new exhaust with catalytic converter and new muffler, cost me a lot of money which I don't have, then to get the car registered I had to find a smog tech who was willing to get away with murder (swap car) and I had to pay him off with more money, and then registering the car from out of state cost money, finally got it all finished a couple weeks ago, I've been slammed with work and haven't been able to make it into a CHP Station, I finally did and the guy was a jerk, I've been to the same station before for tints and the officer then was like a stand up comedian or something, everyone loved him in there and was really nice to me, barely glanced at my car and signed it off.

I don't think I have anymore options without paying a fee at this point.

You can take it to the court house which ever is the nearest to you. They have a sheriffs office which you can go into and they will help you out. But go in tomorrow with paperwork (registration/paperwork showing you had exhaust work done). Let the judge know you got everything taken care of just didn't have time to take it to the chp station

Let me start off by saying I was ticketed for loud exhaust last year and instead of paying to get it fixed, I simply paid the fine. It was $220 as compared to however much the materials are and a $150 cat and labor costs.

As stated above, they always give you the option of just paying a fine and not getting it fixed which is usually much cheaper than paying for exhaust work/new parts.

Second, the chp doesn't need to sign the ticket off. It just needs to be a peace officer. Chp are the Nazis of the police force. The local sheriff or police department will be much more forgiving /lenient when deciding if it has been corrected.

The guy above me has the best idea. Take everything to the court. Receipts, ticket, registration, insurance. Everything. I've always had really good luck with the sheriffs at the court house.

            Good luck.

I wonder if I'd be better off just playing dumb, but I'm sure the officer is going to be there to tell the judge that's bullshit. The cop will be there right?

You haven't met the CHP or the L.A. county Sheriff. Those dudes don't fuck around, if you think L.AP.D. puts down some beatings? you should see the others in action.

I would have done the same but I had straight pipes into a Flowmaster that I myself was anxious to fix before I was being ticketed, that and being out of state the bail was at $673.

Well then the out of state is what fucked you. I'm willing to bet that the exhaust ticket alone was under $300

I go to the CHP off the 605 near mcmaster carr. They almost never leave the air conditioned office. If they don't hear you pull up they just sign it.

It's all about making it quiet. My buddy Just got his ticket written off. Cost him a $25 muffler and welding it on. Didn't even have a cat on it.
