    Engine rebuild

Hey eveyone, does anyone know of a good shop in oc where i can take my '70 2002 to get the engine rebuild, its starting to smoke and i was told by a friend i need to rebuild the whole engine. To be honest with you guys im even considering selling it(depending on how much the job costs). Any info will be very much aprecciate it. I know this is an e30 site but since i used to own one, i thought , why not ask at the e30 community for some help. Thank you!

Ill take the car off your hands for $1000 ;)
Hey what part of Cali do you live in. I know a few good places around the Bay Area and Socal.
How ever just because your car smokes a bit does not mean the engine needs to be rebuilt. I would take it to a mechanic and ask him to check it out before you sell it or decide to spend money on it. Keep in mind your car is old and ever 02 I have owned has smoked just a tad. They dont run as clean as modern cars and have no emissions parts on them at all.

Call Robert at E30 Motor Werks in Huntington Beach; he rebuilt my E30 M20 engine several years ago.

I'm local and would be interested in picking up the car if you decide not to fix it. I want a 2002 to do a m42 swap. I'm sure e30motorwerks labor rate is 2-3x more then a machine shops.

Thank you for your responses, at this time i think i want to take it to a shop first to get a quote before i make up my mind about selling the car. Im in orange county and huntington can be an option, any others? If i do decide to sell it, i will make sure to let you guys know.
            Thanks again, fernando.

You'll have good luck finding better recommendations on bmw2002faq.com (aside from bimmerheads).

Depending on your locations there Mat Rose at Ronin Autoworks in Fullerton. Matt Burnette at Schnell Vintage. There's Ken Blasko in Long Beach, and there's Long Beach Autohaus in ..... Long Beach. Each vintage races at least one 2002.

                      Anything but an M42.

Too bad you are not in norcal; many engine shops with 25++ year locations and the reputation to back it

Hardy and beck would be the suggested place to drop off a 2002 for restoration.....they are pretty well known.

Rebello racing would be the place to send the engine if more than stock output is desired.

They are still alive and kicking. Many very well kept up local bmw's have h&b plates still.

There are also 2x h&b locations as hardy and beck split up
