    New E30 owner

take 2.. as i just typed all of this, didnt copy it, clicked submit and a damn internet error

Just thought i'd do an introductory post as I am both a new R3V member, and a new owner of a 91 318is; Names Aaron. picked this up a few days ago from a fellow service member who is transferring to east coast (the wrong coast might i say) with plans of having it as a project car, DD as my commute is 50+miles/day. as with everything, changes occur and since someone deecided they REALLY needed my car (07 MAzdaspeed6) more than me, it is now my ONLY car and will suit the bill for a DD and fun car just fine. I am admittingly new to the BMW scene myself, although my gf has only been driving BMW's for as long as i've known her (Z3,X3,Z4). so now, alittle about this E30 shall we.
    ----
    1991 318is coupe, 5spd, stock M42
previously black, PO had painted white door jams and all minus engine bay
Magnaflow CBE (a tad loud for liking, the raspiness reminds me of a honda)
JOM CO's (no experience with these, but trolling around I see quiet a few members roll these, so we will see how they fair out)
    BBS Reps 16x8.5 205/40 rubber
stock interior in fairly good condition considering the age

    Plans for said E30:
-quiet the exhaust up some, possibly have another resonator welded in
-lower the front a tad bit more to get that flush look as the rear is flush and the front is somewhat 4x4
-reupholster the headliner and pillars. original is dirty and starting to sag
-do a little "tune-up" plugs, wires, coils, etc (coolant overhaul done late last year by PO, new waterpump in at that time)
-fix some of the cosmetic issues. ordered replacement items from pelicanparts.com
-get the driver front turn signal wired up along with high beams.
-ditch the fogs throw in the blanks (fogs arent wired anyways)

i am not new to cars and the tinkering about, but with BMW's as i mentioned before, i am new to them. im hoping to meet some fellow enthusiasts down in the SD area as well as get some great info (provide where i see applicable of my own.)

I will post some pics later this afternoon. Hello all

thats the plan. i'm going to try and get a compression test and leakdown test done this weekend, make sure its all kosher. i did notice that it feels kinda of slow to start up, particularly on a cold start like yesterday. wondering if the alternator or starter might be old (presumably). PO said the FP was replaced not too long ago, but something to check into i think. Any "common" issues or concerns of note i should be aware of with the M42, aside from being gutless?
