When did several hundred dollars coolers become desired? Do folks need to keep ice cubes solid for days in locations so remote there is no refrigeration?

As to actual timing of this cooler phenomenon I cannot attest but I can tell you and anyone else that once you experience camping and trips into the wilderness and seas alike without concern for ice, life becomes much simpler and more enjoyable.

When you are vacationing, you quickly realize how valuable your time is. It is the most priceless thing in the wolrd. Being slightly grandiose for examples sake, when a relative is on deaths bed, every second can be priceless. Same can apply to time away from work; it is precious.

So a long way around it, yes, a cooler costing hundreds can actually be less costly than an ordinary Igloo or Coleman brand cooler.

          Cheers

From a branding standpoint, shouldn't you want to advertise your own product as the subject?

What you are basically saying is that you and your buddies created a cheaper knockoff that you are trying to peddle for a lesser (still expensive) price by riding the coat tails of an established brand.

Might as well say, "Want a Yeti? Then here, settle for our product, still not a Yeti."

Do you think that is how other brands like Engel went about it?

Still, I like my cooler, Engel. It has served me well on extended road trips and multiple day fishing trips, both situations where these coolers shine.

So, good luck! (Just think about your marketing angle.)

              Hi Derek.

              Great input.

I think I wrote this post late one night when I was just tooling around on the board and figured why not.

The use of the word Yeti to describe a roto-molded cooler is much like using the word Q-Tip to describe a cotton tipped swab. They created the market more or less and it is one name that most people will know what this kind of cooler might be. So yes, I should and will use our name to market the cooler going forward, but it has been a successful marketing campaign doing this as well.

But great feedback and appreciate the insight.

              Cheers.
