It really doesn't matter at all, the tech will scan the vin and it will show auto but he'll input it as a manual and run it. Don't worry about gear ratios or anything, if the RPMS are too high they know and will simply shift to bring the RPMS within range. All the BAR cares about is that the car was smogged within the proper RPM range during the 15 and 25 mph tests. When you work as a smog tech you're told to leave it in second gear and even start the car off in second gear to avoid shifting on the DYNO. When you run up to the 25 mph test and the RPM reading is out of range, you shift to third.
