    Ottawa: good E36 mechanic?

    Hi all,

Relatively new on this forum (an active E30tech member) but I creep here and there.

A friend of mine has an E36 that he bought from a used car dealer.. we both thought it was a good deal: relatively low mileage, 5 speed, cloth interior, NO RUST..

It drove well (i was in the back seat for the test drive) but I wish I had driven it (he doesn't know too much about cars): after getting it home (from Montreal) to Ottawa, he could barely get the car to stop. He took it to a mechanic who said brakes, brake lines, front/rear suspension.. (and several other things Ive forgotten) need to be replaced before it can be inspected.

This was a BMW dealer/mechanic in Westboro.. I'm looking for someone who can be a little less of a dick and give a reasonable estimate for repairs needed to get the car safe and inspected. (Westboro dealer gave him a "$6000-8000" estimate)

    Any suggestions appreciated

Where do you all take your cars to get worked on?

Originally, I took the car to Duss Brothers. I'm sure they do good work, but they were not helpful when they did the estimate, basically just writing single words for the parts of the car that needed work, with no elaboration.

I'm looking for someone who will not just say EVERYTHING the car needs to be showroom 101%, but also what the car needs to get on the road and be inspected.

Hey dude, call PremierPartsCanada.com. (phone is on their webpage) They are starting out and have been doing work on my E30. Been very good and very knowledgeable. Rather hard to get ahold of, but VERY worth it, since Sean (owner) sources all his own parts since he is a distributor for like a zillion companies; therefore prices are A1.

I know that BMW place in Westboro and have never gone in there. However, usually OEM type places like that are fuckers.

Also, get on MaxBimmer.com. I made a thread under Ottawa subboard that is The Good the Bad and the Ugly of car mechanics in Ottawa.

Come out to some events though. You'll have a good time.

          Hey Max,

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely give Sean a call.

I actually sent a request for a login id to MaxBimmer about a week ago but I haven't heard back yet.. If I don't hear back soon I'll send the admin an email.

I'm not living in Canada anymore (NY now) but I come up to Ottawa and Montreal here and there. A meet sounds cool, hopefully they'll work out timewise.
