    Finally got an E30

Been trying since Feb 17th. Found one at a great price just 120Km up the road and its pretty sweet.

Also my friend has a new blue 96 M3 that made the ride through vineyard mountain country a lot more fun.

    So here she is - 1990 E30 318 Touring...

Stick and no power anything and a sunroof and extra set of tires/rims. All for under 1800 Euro. Found off of mobile.de

looks like a nice car. I think you paid too much for it, but atleast its a clean car that wasn't soldierized on base for the last few years.

you will learn to hate the M40, I know I hate mine, and the tick will not go away without new lifters and probably a cam too. I just turn up my radio a bit louder and deal with my car being slow.

you can always do a M50 swap later on for cheap.

I couldnt find anything cheaper for better... Ive been looking for awhile.

Im happy with it and I didnt pay to get ripped off around base with an e30 that had been whored out by every airman or soldier around.

Besides 1800 euro is only around 2500 US

Has one bubble part around the rear passenger door and a dent right around the trunk lid that would be a huge bitch to get fixed...

I might bring it back to the US and I might not. I want to see if I can get one of those straight 6s out of the Junk yard and swap in but I need to look up rules for making sure it will still pass inspection with a swap.

it is hard when you don't know any connections to find "good" deals. the price you paid wasn't bad. on the base insp. is no problem at all, not at all like my TÜV nightmares. actually, this weekend we are swapping a friends 320 touring to a 325. - he has u.s. plates too. if you are gong to do a swap, do a M50/M52 from a e34/e36 they are actually easier to find anyway. I am sure you guys have an autoskills center on base? hang out there a bit and see who the bmw guys are.

you should have a 1 year guarantee on the car too, if you bought it through a car dealer!

                        he said 6 months... ?

I would love an M50/M52 im hoping there is no huge rules about it with the american inspection.

The american is actually pretty hard as well.. apparently a car will pass the TUV then come on base and fail... as well as pass on base then fail off base.

The whole system needs to be done away with and there should just be one inspection.

We dealt with the MOT in England I see no reason not to just do the TUV I think it wastes tax payers money having a whole shop set up just for an american inspection.

TUV inspecting our cars is a horrible idea. We get away with a lot more going through USAREUR inspection. USAREUR has gotten much more stringent over the years but it's not as bad as it could be. We don't perform emissions test. We get by with minor leaks and rust. It also depends on who is working the inspection that day. I wasn't too much of a dick when I worked vehicle inspection but you get that one guy that is having a bad day and just fails everything. I hated working there. It made me sad everytime a BMW came in and it was poorly maintained.

^ exactly. the problem with german TÜV compared to on Base is that EVERYTHING that isn't OEM needs to have the correct papers (AKA the BBS RS on my M3 have no paperwork, therefore i cannot pass TÜV).
Actual wear items, yes, i agree, the onbaset insp. is a bit harder- and it is every year- german TÜV is every 2 years!

You will have no problems with a swaped car on base, it is also allowed through german TÜV- just costs a truckload of money to get it approved on the German side.

I used to have a 1997 Chevy C1500 with airride and 20" Centeline wheels with German TÜV and plates on it- all legal- was a pain in the butt, but was possible.

oh, and he lied to you and is trying to pull a fast one-- it is 1 year (german law for about 5 years now)
