Need Help With Headunit Install- MD

I recently picked up a Sony headunit for my 91 E30 and have been having issues with the install. After following many different instructions and DIY steps I cant seem to get it right. I have the wiring diagram and the electrical troubleshooting guide, but it appears that something is drawing power because now my car wont start. If anyone is local to the Columbia area and knows what their doing I would really appreciate the help. Thanks

I can help you out later next week. I'm gonna be out of town until monday. Here's my question for you, are you replacing the factory headunit with the sony one or another aftermarket headunit? Do you have the correct wire harness for the Sony? How exactly are you connecting the wires, what materials are you using, are you soldering or crimping?

I've done a lot of car audio installs, especially headunits. You might have shorted something out which is causing your battery to drain or alternator to screw up. Also, are you running anything else after market in the car (i.e. subwoofer, etc)?

Hey thanks for getting back to me. I was able to get everything installed and the car is back to normal (blew a fuse), but now whenever I go over a bump, the power to the headunit cuts out..

I ran new wires from the headunit back to where I bypassed the amp and on to the speakers. I cut and spliced the wires and heat shrunk them.

No other aftermarket gear, just the headunit...

When you say you spliced them, what did you do exactly before heat shrinking them? You had to have either soldered or crimped the ends together (crimping would also involve separate connectors) before heat shrinking. if you just twisted them together then there isn't going to be a solid connection which is why your power keeps going out.

yeah that makes perfect sense. theres always the anxious part of me that wants to just get the damn thing over and done with when I should've just taken the time to solder the connections in the first place. Looks like Ill be going back in there to do it the right way...

Maybe next week you could show me the art of soldering audio connections since I have no clue
