    The car won this round

I was installing a set of Vogtland springs on my e30 and got the back in just fine. then moved to the fronts and couldn't get the locking nut off of the tie rod end. The tie rod end is totally shot and the bolt spins with the nut. I'm planning on just picking some tie rod ends up at autozone and cutting the old ones off, terrible idea? I really want to get these on before Bimmerfest.

Still will have to get them out of the strut tubes.... Why not use a jack underneath to put pressure on the bottom of the tie rod end to get it off. Works for me with enough pressure.

I did try that but the thing still just spins.

This, with compressed air. Zips that motherfucker off faster than the ball can try to spin. Works every time for me.

lots of heat and WD40 and using air tools with a jack under the ball joint will hopefully do the trick

i was able to get the nut far enough off so that i could vice grip it once it started to spin. same thing happened with the ball joints in the control arms.

WD40 and heat sound kind of dangerous :firehop::firehop:

you know that in the boot of the tie rod you can lid it down and there is a spot for a wrench, like a 15-17mm that use use to hold the shaft from spinning...

Mine stuck kind of in the middle, where I couldn't get a hold on it on either side of the nut and I couldn't loosen it or tighten it. I cut a notch in the top of the bolt, but couldn't get enough pressure on it with a screwdriver. Oh well, I found the tie rod ends locally, and they needed to be changed anyway.

Oh, and since I have the rears on already.

I didn't see that! I'll check when I get home tonight, the boot is pretty torn up anyway.
