Its so hard to find a really clean one. Especially a 318is. For some reason people abuse the crap out of them.

I looked for almost a year. I gave up on my seach for a clean car and bought a $700 project car with a straight, rust free body. Cant find a clean one, may as well build a clean one from scratch..

Wow, almost a year? I've been looking since June, and had one near miss I still agonize over. Thanks for your suggestions. I'm hoping to find a nice '91 318is or '89-'90 325is 5-speed in anything but red, black, or bronze. An '88 325is fitted with plastic bumpers would work, too.

I can see your logic building a car. At this time I have garage parking but not a garage I can use for working on cars. That's unfortunate, as I do like to wrench on cars.

I just missed out on what would have been a perfect for me white E30 back in 2008 and it took me 2 years of off an on searching to find my E30.

In the end my E30 was even more perfect for me than the one I missed out on in 2008 so it was worth the wait. :)

Keep up the search, eventually you'll find the car for you.
