Does anybody know a reasonable body shop?
Not trying to enter any Pebble Beach de Elegance shows
just want the car to look decent. The last quote I got was $1200.00
Looking for maybe half that if possible

Reasonable is a relative term. Some framework, rust repair and paint cost me $3400 on my E30. Most Maacos won't even paint a car for under a grand any more.

I'd say get it done at the place that quoted you $1200 but you will end up with just that... a $1200 paint job.

The cheapest quotes I've seen for a reasonably decent paint job are 800-1000 here in PA any cheaper than that and they can't be using materials that are any good

I got that quote from Maaco. That was for there paint that is just a step above their cheap paint with a clearcoat and to fix all the body problems
and to sand the PO mistakes.

I was really surprised by there work this location might be better than others.
There work was impressive.

Maaco is a franchising operation, so some of them can be good.

Its the one located in Sterling VA.
Looks like they were even doing a resto on a old VW bug looked good.
