we need to do a REAL roll call.

like people that actually show up and comes out. I know and met maybe only 20 of you on this list, give or take 5.

Let's do this. Two big events for Spring/Summer.

First event will be getting many of our E30s from hibernation. A wrench turning GTG. We probably all have been gathering new parts or have maintenance needing done. A time to help each other out, swap parts, BS and then cruise.

Next event will be a show and shine. Get your cars all sexy, show em off, eat food, swap parts, cruise.

I haven't made any of the Starbucks meets due to work, wirk, bad weather and now that a lot of my car has been moved into my house to restore.

we already have brody's annual bbq, that is and could officially become our show and shine. in fact some photo was featured in the new calendar. We could host a early spring DIY session. However, as former DIY sessions went, its not really taht productive. The weekly meets have been uber successful and we have been DIYing basically every chance and weekend we have. Just my 2 cents.

I hosted DIY's before, but it usually becomes not so effective.

BTW, for all you DMV fools.

          Not mine/no affil

Sigh, I'd love to have a huge 24v swap session on my car. I'd buy a keg and pizza for everyone to help out with my swap. I'd even go as far as bringing everything to the NOVA area, including cherry picker.

^ I need to get some cash! That would be perfect right now!

I'm working on a plan to turn the Barbecue at Brody's event into a full fledged Show & Shine and Cruise. Trying to decide on whether or not to make it a single day or two day event right now. I'll keep everybody up to date on the progress.

We definitely need to have a real roll call where we get everyone out for a full GTG Meet. We've been successful getting a few new people out every week to the College Park meets but we need more consistency.

DIYs are fun but it ends up turning into 1 person working and everyone standing around.

Ya I am just speaking from my VW experiences. I would drive across state lines for GTGs. Steaks, parts swap, working on cars, photos.....

So no offense to you guys, just was throwing it out there. I am new to the BMW scene and of course the local.

I really want to start making the weekly meets. Weather, work, work and disassembled car puts me out of the running often.

Yeah, please buy it before I do. I don't need 4 cars :(. I'm trying to buy a house. Ahh!

Although I don't mind 1 person working (example, motor swapping my car, I don't mind being the only one working, as long as someone is there to slave drive me and tell me what I'm doing wrong :hitler:), I think us BMW folks are kind of different and will help each other.

I bought coilovers off a VW guy at a meet, 40 minutes later with the help of four guys, one on each corner, my car was wearing those coilovers.

Beautiful thing. We all bring something to the table, some are good with turning the wrench, providing space, grilling, photo skills.

Its my first time owning an E30 but I will be glad to join a wrench turning GTG. Sounds like a great opportunity to learn a little more about the wonderful problems a 20+ year old car can have.

I used to have a 91' Wrangler and it was amazing the things that could fail in that car.

Yeah I'm a newbie here too. I want to start doing all of my own wrench turning but I also don't want to be that guy that completely f's some stuff up. I have a big box of parts from blunttech and i cant get my courage up to start the work. I'm in the same boat as cabriopunk. Right now I'm off work due to injury but I work rotating shifts. And if that isn't enough I have my lady friend nagging me. Haha. I should be at this weeks college park meet tho. As long as I get permission that is.

We all help/work on each others cars, don't get me wrong. Especially the College Park crew, almost every weekend we work on each others cars (for instance this coming saturday 4 of us are putting new shocks and a guibo on my e36 and putting a new cylinder head on e30_325es' new project e30). Anyone who wants to come out and work/learn on cars with us is free to do so. The problem with putting together DIY GTGs is mostly a matter of logistics as we've had problems in the past. Most of us don't have garages and those who do don't have available parking for a larger number of cars. Shops tend to be difficult due to liability issues and park police generally frown upon anything other than minor work in the parking lots.

Yun and I have been looking into this for a while (possibly adding a DIY to the Barbecue at Brody's Event). We don't hear much from the VA crew unless we hold a big event or head down to the bimmerforums meet on Thursdays so it tends to be either the weekly meets or a larger event that Yun and I put together (2-3 a year).

Y'all should come out to the Weekly Meets and get to know the guys (and girls). We tend to discuss the majority of our own "DIY GTGs" at the weekly meets so you'll be able to find out when we meet to work on our cars!

As long as I get some suspension on my car I will come out to College Park. So embarassing at stock height.

Let me know if you do. I won't be able to go the next two fridays, but after that...

                                Speaking of meets...
I have a garage, tools (everything but a lift), and (I think) a pretty decent location.
I would be more than willing to host you guys down here. I know it's a hike and a half, but I promise that it wouldn't be disappointing.
                                Good twisties around here, too...
