    Hey Milwauk (keyboard)hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Sorry, I fell asleep on my keyboard due to the lack of local e30 stuff going on. The Harley's are out and it's driving me nuts I want to get out and try the new Euro S52 swap and Race coilovers. I keed, everyone knows M20's on stock suspension are better ( I keep telling myself that) .

Is there any autocross racing in town or any tracks closer (and cheaper) than Road America? Is anyone planning on participating in any motorsports action? I need somewhere to improve my driving skills and I94 is NOT the place to do it.

There tends to be a lot going on in the compressed driving season April -October. As folks have noted:

Autocross: Milwaukee SCCA and WAI run events at Miller Park (SCCA had their first event last weekend and WAI has one this Sunday). There are a couple of folks in e30s running in STX, some try DSP, and others run in the indexed rear street tire class. For schedules see http://www.autox-milwaukee.com/

HPDE: Badger Bimmers is running with the PCA folks this season: there are events at Blackhawk in early June and July (sign up is open); and the Road America event in early October. You'll see a few more or less stock e30s, and some very nice e30s with S52 and other swaps http://www.badgerbimmers.org/main/cat_index_5.shtml

BMWCCA's Oktoberfest will be in August at Road America and has three days of driving schools (W-F), an autocross, a Saturday-Sunday school depending on your experience, and a club racing school.

Other HPDE options: Autobahn has events down in Illinois. A high speed ferry ride across the lake will also get you Gingerman in Michigan, or you can take a ride a bit further south down to Putnam Park.

In short, a lot of chances to have fun some cheap and others less so.

Thanks for the info! I took a look at some of the SCCA events in the link you provided. I'm interested in Oktoberfast, does anyone know what the cost is to register? (I am not seeing it anywhere)

The BMWCCA Oktoberfest in August: registration is open now www.bmwccaofest.org
Costs: you end up having to purchase a day pass plus the specific event you want.

Oktoberfast in October: looks like registration does not open until July 1: http://www.badgerbimmers.org/main/cat_index_7.shtml
Costs: Last year it was $200 per day (Saturday, Sunday) if I remember correctly. Classroom sessions plus 4 track sessions per day. Very well run event, excellent instructors, and a great track! I've been going to this one five out of the past six years. Would have been 6/6 if not for work travel one year.

I do not have a helmet, do they have loaner helmets at the Miller Park autocross events?

I am from Chicago and a big fan of Midwestern Council. They hold events at Blackhawk Farms (Rockford-area) and Milwaukee Mile among other circuits. I hope to get all my maintenance/safety stuff ready on my e30 for my 2nd season in the area. I plan to be at the May 22 event and or the May 29 event.

Here is how it works: Join one of the clubs that is a member of the Midwestern Council (like a conglomerate or union of midwestern sports car clubs). Attend one of their AutoX events which are similar to track days but with shorter practice sessions and a timed-lap portion in the afternoon.

I want to go to the Milwaukee Mile HPDE on Sept 4th, I tried to call the phone number on the website to find out what the entry fee is but nobody answered. If you happen to find out what it costs, please let me know.

I was there last year for the open track day during the same weekend, it was $150 or something. I got tons of track time that day - it was awesome. That track is a bit of a car wrecker though. An Impala SS and Fox-body 5.0 bit it hard, an Integra scraped the wall.
