    Moving: PDX to Madison/Milwaukee

Fella's, hittin the road July 1 and headed back home to WI after 9 years in the PNW. Van Westervelt will be joining me for the drive. I will be in Madison (attending Edgewood) but over in Milwaukee often.

How is the E30/BMW scene in the area? Look forward to meeting the Midwest crew. If you see a late model diamond schwarz sedan with a crappy paint job rollin around give a nod!

There are a handful of E30's a couple of nice BMW's of other generations but as someone who moved to Milwaukee from Utah 3 years ago, I would have to say that there is a severe lack of younger car enthusiasts here. Most of the gearheads ride motorcycles and the ones that prefer 4 wheels are into classic American iron. Nothing wrong with this, You will definitely see what I am saying when you get here.

There ARE some true E30 enthusiasts but I usually only spend time on R3V and rarely ever see any meetings or events posted here. I am guessing the other BMW forums have more.

Good luck with the move and the drive out here! Perhaps some other local guys will come out from hiding and we can all meet up.

Some of the younger (and older too) local enthusiasts visit a Tavern every week in Milwaukee on Thursdays. We also have a pretty lively drivers education at local tracks (Road America, Blackhawk Farms, etc) if you are into that or would like to. Personally, I am always down for a good e30 project or coffee. It would be nice to have an occasional Cars and Coffee meet as the community could definitely use some growth. Anyone should feel free to PM me for more info or contact info or general local info.
      Cheers,
      Will

I'm always up for hanging out and a meet, but as time goes on I find I have less and less time for cars -- blows but it will come back around.

There are lots of closet car guys in Milwaukee. They make it to a meet once a year or so but don't really care to post on forums or anything like that. It's hard to get a good crowd together around here at once.

Best bet for this year is BMW Octoberfest in late August at Road America. About one hour north of Milwaukee and a very large turnout expected this year. Check BMWCCA.org for details.

That sounds awesome! I've never been to Road America, but would like to check it out. Been a few years since I hit the track. I wouldn't turn down an opportunity to drive, but I'm not going out of my way til school's done. It's fun but can way too quickly turn into a scary fast cash eater!

Sounds like we'll have to try for a gtg early August. I like the coffee and cars type idea.

Anything that comes with a Blue Ribbon is certainly good. And that tall boys make everything taste better.

I heard rumor that it was a popular beer on the west coast. Funny. You will do fine back here :)

I grew up in WI, lived there til '01. Not too concerned about fittin in! It was up in the Green Bay area so Madison/Milwaukee are mostly new to me though. Was not into cars much then so I have no idea what the scene is like.

PNW'ers are beer snobs. That makes me like Hamm's and PBR tall boys (at least when I'm with people here) best. I hear they're popular too but I have no clue who those people are... I do find it funny that with the number of beer snobs here, it has the worst selection of good beer of any place I've been! Grocery stores and restaurants here tend to only have basic domestics and the main 3 local micro brews.

Cool, I was born in MKE, but grew up in Sturgeon Bay so I am pretty familiar with the GB area. Not into cars then either. Honestly, I find pabst to be the best cheap beer, but I really appreciate a good beer.

I'm so bummed about not moving back to Green Bay.

Really looking forward to getting to know Madison. Been there a few times this year and so far love it. Parents are in Milwaukee and it'll be fun to visit more often. A little bigger than I prefer living in the middle of though.

Some days I wish I went into marketing or graphic design, seems like you could have some fun. I will be starting my Senior year at MSOE for mechanical engineering this fall. I too cannot wait to be through. I am a bit behind so I have a few extra classes to take, super-senior status ahoy!

Yeah, well some days I wish I went into engineering just so I had all that knowledge.

Maybe you can help me with my random (super ridiculous) exhaust theory questions. :p
