HEY! COME AUTOCROSSING DAMNIT! Jan. 30th

    Yeah, you!

Jan. 30th, winter series (not worth points, basically just seat time).

Good times to be had, post in here for more info with whatever, I can answer a lot of questions in regards to SCCA (except classing, I'm bad when it comes to classing).

Cost is $35 to race, and you must be an SCCA member ($15 for an on-site weekend membership, or $45 for an annual membership).

Your car MUST be in decent order because there WILL be an on-site inspection. They're pretty lenient, but don't show up with something stupid like a bumper about to fall off, or brake pads that are toast, etc...

Anyway, post away if you're coming or not, ask questions, make comments, whatever....

Looks like registration closed this morning. I really want to start now that my car is in better shape. Do they usually have helmets to borrow?

There is a small chance I will show up to watch for a bit, I went a few times ago and its a fun time even to hang out.

lol I was gonna say, I double checked and you have another week to go. With the local chapter SCCA, they always close registration the Thursday before the race weekend.

Edit: They do have helmets to "borrow", and you can rent one for yourself for the day... Personally, I'd suggest just investing in a helmet if you think you'll be doing any more racing down the road. This way you won't have to worry about having to find a lender, or borrow one from someone, or rent one (limited supplies).

I don't have my own helmet yet, but I'm waiting till my car's outta the woods and I know I'll have some racing ahead of me instead of another summer of down time while wrenching on the car.
If you do buy one just make sure it will pass for what you're planning on doing (just autocross? track time?)

Yeah the helmet thing is my biggest concern. I don't really want to fork down the money on one until I know if I actually want to do a lot of auto-x. Where can I rent one for a day in the denver area? That seems like the best bet. I didn't really know that was an option.

Yeah, the helmet thing is still kinda daunting, and I, in all honesty, JUST remembered I need to address that issue this season. As for renting, you rent it the day of the race, at the sign in table. When you pay for the race, you pay the extra $10 and grab a helmet. The biggest concern, is you have to go early to make sure you get your hands on one (Winter series, I dunno if there will be a big demand for the helmets, or what... I'd look in the contacts on the SCCA page and email the chair or something with questions).

Does anybody have a decent jack that could help me switch wheels/tires out? I'd love to go to this...

I talked to a friend tonight and he's letting me borrow his jack. I doubt I'll be swapping wheels there, maybe do it the night before, but I'm gonna need it cause I'm planning on dumping my camber way negative and then switching back at the end of the day.

On the CUSCC forum (CU sports car club forum) we have a little group going already, we're all gonna meet in the morning and road trip down together I think. Anyone is welcome to join us (probably meeting in Boulder). Machined, if you wanna do that then you can park next to me and use the jack. If not, I can try to save a sport and you can still use the jack.

So, we've decided on a meeting place for those who wish to caravan. We are meeting in the parking lot for Moe's Bagels / Jamba Juice / Starbucks off of Arapahoe.

3075 Arapahoe Avenue, Boulder, CO‎ is the address for Moe's for those wishing to google directions. There will people people meeting there getting coffee, bagels, etc. for breakfast, then we'll be LEAVING, LEAVING, LEAVING, LEAVINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG this location at 7-7:10-ish.

Remember that you need to sign up to race before thursday morning this week, and you need a temp membership (available on site) or you can buy the annual membership for the SCCA.

It's highly suggested that newbies go to my link for the local SCCA chapter and spend time reading and learning, make sure you're class numbers and letters don't conflict with regulation, your helmet applicable, etc., etc., etc.....

It would be cool to have a lot of people going, but not cool if you don't do your homework and they won't let you race, then you proceed to complain about it later on.... :D

Anyway, a shameless plug again, but I need more business so I'm gonna be willing to detail the week before the race. I'm up in the air on whether I want to detail my car before the weekend (yeah, if you've seen my car and it's condition, it's not even a full detail. That was a minor polish and a coat of wax :) )

Not sure if i did enough homework, but I paid for my yearly membership, signed up for the autocross event, classed my car, etc, and got a whole bunch of confirmation emails, I only have to get a helmet. I will be prowling CL for one.

You're probably good. I need a helmet too. I think tomorrow I'm gonna look online for one, I can get a pyrotech open face for like 100, and that's all you should need for autocross or track use. (I highly suggest buying an open face). I've used the full helmets, and they get hot and annoying
