So I got a job at Maaco...

with piss-ass butt crack pay. But hey its a job, and now I have the inside scoop on what really happens at Maaco. And it is a pretty fun job, the guys are cool, and i love painting cars.

I am gonna see if i can get discounted paint jobs. and if any of you want to paint your cars, I can assure you that it will be taped off with the utmost quality! can't guarantee the same of the prep work and the paint though....

I sure could use my front valance resprayed. Good thing is there is pretty much zero prep work if you just tape off at the trim. I never even looked at how much that would cost. Any idea?

Word. How much does Maaco pay for a "taper"? what about a sprayer? or you do both?

my hours got cut hard this last two weeks... I've definately got the free time to do something on the side now :(
...what hasn’t been done to an m20 yet?

Just FYI, maaco is a really shitty company to work for.

no idea, i would guess around $100, maybe less.

butt-crack pay. a sprayer gets a little more, like butt-crack plus sweaty balls pay. Im not a sprayer, I detail and tape.

im 23, and I have Auto Cad skills, experience in both the Civil Engineering industry and the Defense Industry, and mechanical engineering education, so no qualifications to work at Maaco whatsoever.

For me to get hired, they had to try out two other people before me who had "tons of experience" and find out that they were both low-life scumbags, and then realized that I was actually a cool person to get along with and a hard worker and the "tons of experience" isn't all that important.

How do you know? and btw i JUST got off the phone with an acquaintance of mine who said i may have a job opportunity at a mechanic shop, so im going to an interview on Monday after work.

I can see how it can suck working for a huge chain corporation like Maaco, because I may be just stuck in that position with no room to budge. after all, its only a job to get me through till i can finish school.

I worked for maaco for two years during high school. Pay sucked, got cheated out of money with corporate loopholes, lots of Mexicans, annoying fucking customers that expect a showroom quality job for 500 dollars. And as a detailer YOU will catch all the shit when a customer is unhappy and YOU will have to fox everyones overspray and paint imperfections and if you don't do it fast you'll get bitched out real fast.

Just kinda shitty to he anything but a painter there. A few painters that had been there a while however were making north of 20 bucks an hour.

hmm... i am hoping this other mechanic shop interview goes well... it would be better to work for a small independent shop than a huge corporation.
