I've been saying this for a while....track blows the shit out of sillycross.

I woke up butt-fuck early (4:30) and left to meet Roland in Denver. Met Roland, proceeded down I-70 and got off in Byers. Gassed up and drove down the road to HPR. Pulled in, signed the waiver, got a spot and unloaded. Proceeded to pay and register, then meet other students and instructors... Then course walk (in cars). Did a session riding passenger in the instructor's car (e46 M3, holy fuck) at speed to familiarize both of us with the track. The classroom session to go over basics... Then first session to find line, keep eyes up, apply basics, etc... Oh and there were 2 Ferrari F430 Scuderias... Anyway, did 1st session, was a tad messy. I couldn't quite get the line right, and Roland spun into the dirt. Toward the end I was linking it all together but we had to come in.... Then more classroom session to review what we did, and then learn about weight transfer and some other shit. Session 2 we applied new knowledge. I started nailing some corners and staying on line, but not perfect. Was loads of fun. Then lunch and a few hours of waiting. 3rd session was simulated Time Trials session (all students went out on track and bunched up, then commenced a rolling start to experience that, as well as traffic, flags, pointing, etc, etc, etc,.... ). Was good times, had the line down much better, probably my best / favorite session of the day. Hauled ass, and learned that proper line, and carrying speed can lead to interesting things (scrubbed 2 wheels off barely in a hairy corner and nailed 2 pylons, no damage, good times). 4th and final session was almost immediately after, students flew solo while instructors and a few other people took their own cars out on track to simulate solo time trials, stupid drivers, traffic, etc... The instructors were purposely driving "dangerously" and off the line, etc. to try and put the student in a situation where they had to make the right choices.... Very awesome day, everyone in our student group got signed off to move up in the ranks. (throughout the day also we spent watching Spec Miata (smash miata) as well as several other classes racing, crazy and awesome times.... End of the day brought packing up, then free (freaking GREAT, I thought) food, as well as free beer (not just cheap stuff either). Then drove home dead ass tired, and now sittin here, thinking about what I wanna spend my money on (instructor confirmed what I already knew to be true... Spend $$ on seat time, not go fast parts).. However, I think seats, harnesses, and a new steering rack are in order. We'll see what happens though, today was fucking amazing.

In response to David's post, I'd suggest opting for the $16 dinner at the BMW club, or bring plenty of your own food... Byers is where you'll be staying in a hotel, and it's a BLIP in the road.... I think there was a food mart / restaurant, but don't quote me on that.

I am extremely jealous, Ben you need to let me know about these things more than a week before hand. Sounds like a great time, did Amanda come down and take pictures or anything? And roughly how many laps did you get per session?
