lol, we all can have a subframe party, i wonder how quickly we can do one car, with multiple ppl working on it...

i think my bushings are worse than yours were, but i'm saving up for suspension components too... see my other thread for that..

this should be titled "how idiots remove subframe bushings"

it takes 30 seconds to remove them, Ive done them couple times. YOU DO NOT BURN THE BUSHING OR CUT IT.

heat the metal around the bushing, you will see the old grease and lube bubble up and coming out, takes about 15 second of flame. then 4lb happen hit the aluminum, it will literally jsut fly out squeeky clean.

Burning the bushing andcutting it, loses your levarage point, and its a freaken mess. I dont see why peopple insist on burning the actual bushing. and using a cutter.

relax dude! it was fun making lots of fire! and also the cutting idea was nixed very early on, as it wasn't working. BTW, i bought US ellips from you when i lived in MD, remember? I had the "whooga" horn....

actually, those are your headlights there in my sig....

its removing bushings, shit, if i had to do a job like that, (which it seems everyone detests btw), i'd get some fun out of it too.

besides, its fire, you get to burn shit, so thats a +1.

i've been putting this off for years... i just changed subframes for one with good bushings. eh.

i'll have to go through it eventually though. First time I tried to heat the metal around the bushing and knocking it out. that didn't work. so i took the subframe to a mechanic i knew and he tried to push them out. HE BENT THE SUBFRAME. and then i gave up and just put a different, better condition bushing subframe in :P

But no, heating the metal will not reduce it's strength.

The trick is to heat it enough. See the pictures.

Don't use the fire technique. That's not good for your lungs. If your really in a jam pm me and we can try to set something up. I have access to a press and I'm in Louisville.

How the heck do you guys get your bushings to burn like that? I've been torching mine for a while but to no avail.

Use something else if you can... Acetylene or MAP gas should get things going...
