    Help out a colorado peep

    Hey guys,
So a couple days a ago i was changing my diff fluid, and in the process of putting the bottom bolt back on I managed to crack the diff cover
So if anyone has a spare or wants to sell me one that would be great.
    Thanks

Damn where did it crack? I just changed mine today and whoever put the damn bolts back in last time made it WAY too tight, I had to get a little creative. Dunno how you coulda cracked it though.

PM me for detailing services in the Longmont / Boulder Area in Colorado!

Huh, that's crazy. I don't have a spare cover, but I'd ask Sam, maybe he's got one kicking around, or go to the junkyard and yank a cover. I'm pretty sure there are some e30s in the local yards still.. Or maybe someone can just help you out, I don't have a spare or I would.

On another note, are you new around Boulder? New to e30s? We have a pretty active group around, Bimmerman is from Boulder and I live in Niwot

the yard in aurora at colfax and zeno has two early model e30's i think. like early 80's or something. will e36 diff covers fit? because the one on broadway/70th had a couple too i thought...

I was just at the one on broadway and they did have some e36 covers, but I think you have to make some modifications to make it fit. But no e30's there. I should have went to the one in aurora, its leaking pretty bad.

The case isn't under pressure, I'd suggest JB weld till you can find a replacement?........

I have rtv in the bolt and in the crack. Every time I go back to the car there is a nice sized spot of diff fluid under it. So I dont know if I can keep driving it or not.

Is it your only form of transportation? If so, I wouldn't drive it.... You don't want those gears starving for lubrication, specially since they're old.... Do you have any JB weld? If not, I do and I can maybe meet you in Boulder tonight... I'd say drain it again, JB weld it over night and let it sit as long as you can so you know it seals, then re-fill and keep looking for a cover...

JB weld is AWESOME. Its like liquid room-temperature metal. but make sure you clean the area down to bare metal and it can't be oily at all or the JB weld won't adhere correctly.

Correct, which is why I said drain it first :)
